    Default Ideal Thermostat Temp

What is the ideal thermostat temp?
    I started at 70 then 68 and 65.
I am trying to reduce my electric bill because this is the first time
it is not included in my rent. MY apartment complex uses the
most expensive supplier. I use an electric blanket at night.
I have few electrical appliances but still my bill seemed a lot for a one bedroom.

All night it is 65, and that's as low as I can get dh to go. And he still says its freezing. I prefer cold at night. I have a auto thermostat. At 6am, it goes to 68 for the morning, then at 8am it flips to 65. It stays there all day, or lower until evening then back to 68 IF needed. Then at 10pm flips to 65 again.

While researching that question.... I can across a nifty idea.
    http://www.dscp.dla.mil/gi/general/l.../wallplate.pdf

Although I wouldn't go out and purchase the wallplate- because- heck, you can just put an inexpensive thermometer in your room.
Many companies give them away as freebies.

But the concept is still there. Monitoring the temp of each room will help you adjust your temperature to comfort level.

well, my rooms are all controlled, so I can turn off the heat in any room I'm not using. That being said, I also pick a day a week that I use no energy if possible. No baking, laundry, computer, tv, lights etc.... I get my socks out and often it's my day for deep cleaning (because I work up a sweat). If it's too too cold, I'll close off the room I'm in and light a couple of candles. That takes it up a degree or two. Some poeple think this is a bizarre way of doing things, but my hydro has gone down hugely.

    I keep ours on 59* all day/night.
We've gotten used to it, now when we go places that have their heat higher than 65*-ish we get overheated lol.

well this is just 1 area that i cant be frugal. i will pinch the electric in all other areas just so i can change the temp in the house all willy nilly. most winter nights i can get away with the temp at 65 but then i keep it between 70 and 73 during the day. depending on what im doing in the house of course. in summer i keep it around 73 mostly. thing is, we sleep under a ceiling fan all year long. doesn't matter what the temp is outside, the bedroom fan has to be on while we sleep.

Before we had out new heat pump system put in last week...we never keep it on one temperature.... it was 72-80 (dh did this)!! and we were still cold. Needless to say, our power bill was always high..

Now with the new system, we keep it on 65 and turn it up to 68-69 when its very cold. This should really bring our power bill down.

LOL...well, it's more of a necessity with the heating bills being what they are. Even with keeping it on 59* and using the woodstove on very cold days, our power bill is still nearly $500/month (that's electric & natural gas - for heating and cooking)

Off is my favorite temp. But then with being in South Florida winter weather is not too bad. When the temps dip down into the 40's we set it at 60 but as soon as temps stay above 60 off it goes. Since we work outside in construction we don't turn the air on til late July and Aug. then only at bedtime and only to 80. We run our ceiling fans and open and close windows and doors as needed. If you get too used to the cool temps its too hard to go out and work in the sun all day. Yes, my neighbors think I'm nuts but when they are crying about 200 dollar electric bills I'm real happy with my 80 or 90 dollar bill.

We keep ours at 67 day and night. Ideally it would be most comfortable to keep it 71 during the day and 67 at night. Gripey is always cold (hence the nickname)

I can't be frugal here either, because I will shiver!!! Even in my layers I like the thermostat set at 73 when I'm home. Its on 65 at night and 60 during the day when no one is here. I love my automatic thermostat!!! I have it set to get warm at 7:00 when I get up so its easy for me to get out of bed.

Now, the summer is a different story. I like the windows open as long as possible, and I set the thermostat on 80. I don't like cold air blowing in the house. We do keep the fans on all the time, and DH will turn it down when he gets hot. If it were up to me, i would hardly ever turn on the AC!

Right now we are keeping the thermostat on 69 most of the time unless it gets really cold (like below 20), then it's up to 71. Our heat is gas and right now we are on budget billing, it's $61 a month, but without budget billing it would be around $200
During the summer, we only turn the air on once it hits the 90's with high humidity, it's usually on 74 or so. Our air is electric, and it usually runs around $100/month(that's with all other electricty as well)...hence the gas goes down to around $15/month without heat....but on the budget billing it will stay at$61/month year round.
