to a record low for April this month! Only $42cdn. on electric and $132 on natural gas (heating). Normally the electric is around $85 and the natural gas is $150. Dh and I are doing the happy dance and socking away the extra for the mortgage.

We aren't totally sure, but one thing that's contributed for sure is the weather has warmed up here and days are longer. It's springtime where we live. Even then, we're lower than average for this time of year.
I think it's because I have been conscientious about turning off lights and electronics equipment. I no longer leave the computer on all day when I'm not using it. It goes off if it's going to sit more than 3 hours unused. I also have taken to double checking behind dh and dd#2 for the TV, VCR, DVD player. They tend to turn off the TV, but leave the other two on.
I'm also thinking about which lights I'm leaving on when we need lights. For example, I'm one of those people who can't watch TV in the dark. Dh used to turn on the overhead sunroom light - 3 60 watt bulbs - while we watched TV. I decided that was overkill. I told him from now on we were just going to turn on the lamp in living room - 1 60 watt bulb. So that's what we've done.
Also I've been hang drying laundry again, which is cutting dryer use.
I can't believe it, but I think it's little things like that.
The natural gas bill is a function of chasing around behind dh and dd#2 shutting the outside doors behind them. And keeping heat down and wearing sweaters and layers in the house instead, and a warm spring. It all adds up.
