    Default Garbage company

Well ONYX sure made me angry! My address is the city of !@#$%^& but I technically live in the township of $#@%^&$#. Onyx has a contract with the city and no other company can come here!!! Onyx considers us not residents of the city so we pay more! They just recently decided after lots of complaining they would get our recycling.
It was advertised in the newspaper free bulk pick up week for our area. Well I get the bill and we were charged 86$ ~ 25 for the sofa we put out , $1 for a phone call I made regarding a bill not going through so they did it by debit on the phone and the rest was the reg 3 month bill.
They said we dont get free bulk pick up because I techincally live in the township not the city. My mailing address is THE CITY. The population of the so called township is bigger than the so called city. I pay the citys taxes! I called city hall and they confirmed yes we have no other garbage carrier options as we are considered city residents and should be covered in the city contract with onyx.
I went round and round with onyx and cancelled. I can take my recyclables, brush and scrap metal to the dump for free. The dump charges 1/4 what onyx charges to take an old appliance etc. We buy 35 gallon bags from the dump for 2$ each. They can be stuffed and not tied. I figure we should come out ahead this way even factoring in a monthy trip to the dump 10 miles away!
Oh ONYX made me mad! Threy and Waste management have bought out and run off every little garbage company within 40 miles. GRRRR

Glad you dropped them to the curb & hope you reamed them good on the phone. Writing a letter to the editor in the local paper sounds in order too.

Sounds like a company in this neck of the woods, LAIDLAW......

For most companies I think customer service is a thing of the past.

That is an excellent idea Darlene! I already complained to city hall also.

It sounds like you made the right decision to drop them, but I would fight the bill considering that the city considers you a resident and confirmed that for you. I hope it all works out.

Sounds like a great plan, similar as to waht I went through with Aliant (phone company, don't get me started). It's so much better when you know that what you're doing is for the best for you and you're showing some retraint against the people that are causing you trouble. Ever check to see if the people in your neighborhood would be willing to pay you to take their garbage to the dump? Just a thought -- that'd show Onyx that they can't tramp on the "little guy".
