    Default Letter from Oil Company

I just received a letter from my oil company. Basically it was saying that their prepay plan in being delayed by a couple of weeks and that we should expect a rise in prices for the upcoming season. They also said that 200 gallons of oil will most likely cost over $500! Now that is outrageous!

Ouch!!!! A few years ago we put a natural gas converter on our oil furnace...it was cheaper than oil back then, but even natural gas has risen....when will it ever end???? We pay at least $150-$200 a month for natural gas in the winter.....(and the same for our utility bill) but it goes to almost $0 in the summer.....(we cook with gas so there is always some kind of bill from them) I'm feeling for you though..it's tough to make it sometimes!

peanut - we are conservative with the oil heat. During the weekdays we shut if off around 7 am and turn it back on around 2 or 3 pm. At times we also use oil filled space heaters if it is not too frigid and windy out. As far as how long 200 gallons last me that really depends on the weather. This past January was very mild for our area therefore we used a lot less oil. I would say on average 200 gallons would probably last me 2 months during the winter.

Banana: then that really IS an OUCH! $500 for two months heat is kind of excessive. That's what we pay here on the Canadian prairies...in natural gas costs...but usually only $250 for January then down to $200 or less either side of it.

200 gal of propane cost $478.00, this lasted us 5 weeks and it is also our hot water. This past winter killed us in propane costs. Also, we kept thermostat low....., it was cold in our house, and the winter was mild. Everything seems to be out of control with costs.

Two years ago when we had the first big spike in oil prices there was a local oil company that also tried to "delay" their price-lock plan (you can lock in the price for the winter, but I think you have to do so by Aug or Sept). Enough customers took them to court and they ended up having to honor their original date.

    Just something to think about!
