Prepaid Home Heating Oil
After much discussion with hubby, we decided to prepay our oil for the upcoming winter season.
Although we will be paying more than last year I cant worry all the time what the prices might be so we decided to lock in now.
We prepaid for 500 gallons of oil at a price of $2.499 a gallon for a grand total of $1249.50. I am hoping 500 gallons will be enough as we also use oil for our hotwater.

We do this every year but haven't seen what the fixed price will be yet. They are supposed to send out the info this week. I can only remember 1 year where the price went lower than we paid so we've gotten a good deal. We have alot left in our account from last year (mild winter plus we mostly heated with wood) so paying this years bill shouldn't be to rough, hope the price isn't too far from last years price of $1.99 gal.

Not sure where you live in this wonderful world of ours Ann Marie but I'm hoping for a mild winter for you as well.

Darlene - I'm in PA. We had some mild weather this past winter too, especially in January. Last year was the first year we didnt prepay and we ended up spending .40 more per gallon. I didnt want to make the same mistake this year!

Ladies, start saving every little penny you can get your hands on for the upcoming heating season. I just about freaked when I saw our special lucky discount price to pay for pre-paying our oil...$2.70 gal. It was $1.99 last year. I thought your price of $2.50/gal was bad Ann Marie...man.

I am so glad we heat mostly with wood that we cut and all ourselves.~*Darlene*~

Wow Darlene! $2.70 is outrageous! I thought $2.50 was bad..........
If you dont mind me asking how many gallons do you use a year? Do you use it just for hotwater or do you supplement your wood heat with oil heat at times? I'm hoping to use only 500 gallons this year. I hope we can do it!

I am in SE PA and though I don't use oil (electric heat pump & wood burner), my father has heard of $2.55 and $2.61 for prepay here. he hasn't heard from his oil company yet. I hope we have another mild winter. Dad & Mom are 80 and Mom is an invalid so having the house cold is not an option, though they try their best. I am so glad our wood is cut for the winter.

We use propane here at my house and I have always prepaid for the heating season. I am going on Thursday and pay for it when I go to town.
