What Temp to Keep House
Can anyone offer some advice. Last year I would shut off the heat while everyone was out of the house and the temp never dropped lower than 60. Now with a new puppy I was wondering what temp I need to keep the house at for the puppy's sake without hurting my pocketbook. Is 60 too cold for a puppy that will be around 5-6 months at the start of heating season? Keep in mind he is a small dog and only weighs around 5 lbs at the present time.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

I used to have a tiny 4lb Yorkie and I would always just go by how I felt. . was I warm or cold?. . .When we would have freezing weather here in Florida, I would make sure that it was always warm for her (I could have done without so much heat, but I was always so worried about her). She also had sweaters I could put on her if she was shivering a bit. Maybe someone else can help you out more with this.

If she sleeps in a certain area and has her own bed, you could always keep a heating pad on low under her bedding. She'd know that was a warm place to snuggle up if she got cold. Dogs are pretty smart about stuff like that.....

Good idea Mermaid. . .she could even throw a fluffy, warm blanket down for the little doggie to snuggle into.

The heating pad is a good idea. I'm just concerned that he might chew it and who knows...... i dont want a fried little puppy and I will not leave a space heater on with noone home...............

I would not use a heating pad he will chew the cord. They chew Christmas tree lights why not the heating pad cord. I leave my heat on 65 for my cats.

My dog starts to shiver if it gets lower than 65, but he's a Florida dog, and we all shiver below 70!

We keep our thermostat at 59 most of the time. We got our littlest sheltie when he was 6 weeks old, in February. He did just fine with the temp. I would think if you are warm, he would be too...he's got a fur coat
