question about ceiling fans
Should I leave the fans on in my living room overnight? Does this help keep the air circulating and keep the a/c for kicking on? Or am I wasting money having them on?
Thanks,
P

We cut ours off in rooms that aren't being used just like lights we also close down vents in rooms that aren't being used. Yes, even just for the night. That way when we raise the t-stat before we go to bed all the air flow is being directed to our bedrooms.

I wish I'd been smart enough to turn mine off at night. I burned out the motor on the one in the kitchen (where I need it most!). Granted, it's probably over 20 years old...

I guess I'm an odd-ball. I leave mine going 24/7. How much money/energy do you save by turning them off at night?

Our June electric co-op newsletter said you can save $8.00 a month by simply turning the ceiling fans off when not in the room.
Here is the math:
1 fan = $96.00 savings a year
2 fans = $16.00 a month and $192.00 savings a year
3 fans = $24.00 a month and $288.00 savings a year
Yikes! We have 7 ceiling fans in the new house. Contractor installed one in each bedroom and a big one in living room. We also had two installed on the front porch and one on the back screened porch. That means my savings will be $56.00 a month, and $672.00 a year!!! That's not chump change!!
You better believe I will be busier than a cat covering it up making sure all fans are off when nobody is in a room, LOL MERCY!!!
We also close the vents to rooms that are not being used.
