    Default Electric Dryer ?

    Hi!

For those of you who now hang your clothes to dry, how much did it save on your electricity bill?

    Thanks!

It's really dry and hot here in the summer and spring and cold and wet in the winter (don't have much of a fall), so I only hang clothes on the line in the summer. It saves about $30 a month and helps alot since we have to run the A/C alot. This summer it has been over a 100 degrees most days!

The clothes sometimes dry faster than in a dryer. They are really stiff and I've found my husband's work shirts don't have as many wrinkles. I don't hang towels anymore. Hubby complained they were too stiff. Told him to get used to it but changed my mind when my 3 year old cried when I dried her after her bath! Be sure to look at the clothes carefully when you bring them in off the line. A bird pooped on my daughter's sheets a few days ago and I had to rewash them.

If I'm really diligent about it, I can save up to $25 on my monthly bill.

I usually throw my clothes in the dryer for about 10 minutes before hanging them so they aren't so stiff. I save between $20 and $30 every month.

Great tip for STIFF line dried clothes. Add 1/4 cup of white vinegar to your final rinse and your clothes won't be stiff. My momma did this all the time and so do I.

I save between $14 and $25 when I hang laundry. I do the 5 minutes in the dryer trick to clothes and diapers but not towels. I love 'em crunchy!

It varies and of course you're personal savings will be heavily dependent upon your electric rates (they vary greatly all over the country). My last bill I brought down by $10 over the previous by hanging laundry, however, it could have been lower. What prevented that was a lot of rainy/heavily cloudy days that required us to have lights on more than we normally would.

I wish I could line dry but with several pets, I need the dryer to remove the bulk of the pet hair. The washer just doesn't get it all.
