Need help....
Does anyone know what I need to put in a search engine to prove to my hubby that hardwood flooring isn't too bad for winter heating bills in the northeast?
Okay here's the deal, we have wall-to-wall carpeting throughout the entire house except for the bathroom and kitchen. It is a very good grade, but was put in about 13-14 yrs ago. Now after having lots and lots of furballs live here over the years, I cannot keep it clean anymore. I just do not have the energy to keep up with what has to be done to keep it nice looking.
We have hardwood floors underneath which would be soooooo much easier for me to keep clean, not to mention all the allergens that carpet keeps in it. ewwwww!
I don't want to rip it all up, just the main portions of the house, i.e. living room, dining room, stairway, litter room and small hallway upstairs and leave it in all the other 3 bedrooms.
What I need to find is an article or a comparison or SOMETHING to help me convince him that our heating bill won't skyrocket during the winter.
I need
please!

Well, being that cold air does not rise...how would having no carpet (assuming to insulate against the cold) affect the temperature in the house? Meaning, if the floor were a tad colder, the thermostat would not pick that up. You would just wear slippers.
We have hardwood floors throughout the house and while I cannot say our utility bill is manageable (even on the budget plan our bill is $271/month for electric & gas) I cannot say it is all because of the wood floors. Our house is 125 yrs old w/ original windows, we have 11ft ceilings, and it's just plain HUGE.
Here is one link I've found:

Not only are hardwood floors more pleasant to walk on than laminate (which always feel cold and a little "fake" underfoot), but it is naturally warm. Wood acts as an excellent insulator, thanks to its thousands of tiny air chambers per cubic inch, which work to naturally hold in heat.

DH and I put hardwood floors in our house a few years ago and were worried about how it would be during the winter months too, but I'll have to say it hasn't made any difference at all in our heating bill. Our floors may be a little bit chiller when it's really cold outside, but not much. Our house is on a cement slab, so even with the carpeting the floors were cold in the winter.

We have hardwood floors on the 1st floor and upstairs in the hallway and haven't noticed much of a difference when it's cold out, although I must say sometimes I do WISH we would have left carpet on them downstairs as they are pain to keep clean, JMO.
