Oh my...it's cold in here
Well it's been raining and I'm trying not to turn on the heat till hubby gets home....I'm not sure I can wait another hour. It's funny how when fall first gets here it seems so extreme, but it's really not that bad...it's just that first shock or changing seasons. It's 56 in here, I got on the treadmill and warmed up with a little workout...but it's wearing off. Maybe I'll go get some dinner going first, my husband thinks I'm nuts sitting in the dark with no heat.
The electric bill last month was $53 and I'm so proud, I'm sure it will be on the rise until spring...but I'm going to give it all I got. How is everyone else doing???

Its getting pretty cold here too.. Even after the blizzard, which we didn't get it that bad, it was farther down south, we havent turned the heat on yet.
We are using the quartz heater tho. Its chilly in the morning, but warms up quickly, I don't know how much longer we can go. I wanted to make it to Nov. before turning on the heat ,,, but now thinking Dec.? Doubt that happens.
My gas bill was $9.26, would love to keep it there.. Electric was $130.00, which isnt too bad, but that will go way up with the heat on,, so will gas.
Gonna give it everything here too,, scared the husband will crank it on here soon.
great job on your electric bill!!

Suzysaver I live in the Columbia River Gorge and need I say it's windy and very cold and wet today. I froze my hiney off grocery shopping today. I have the heatpump on and turn the pelletstove on when I'm going to be home most of the day. We are all electric so we have mondo electric bills when the east wind howls through the gorge in December and January.
New windows and siding have helped a lot, electric bill for Oct was $95 and it will be pushing $200 for the next few months. The spa doesn't help, but it sure is wonderful to use in the cold months.Robin

We wore shorts yesterday. It was 75 and sunny. Today it dropped a little and got pretty windy. I had to wear some capri pants, but still in short sleeved shirt. I have not had to pull out the space heater, yet.

I hate to say it but I have had my heat on a little. I just can NOT stand to be cold. I do better in the summer with the air.

I broke down and turned the heater on the other day. It got down to 66 degrees in the house, and I just couldn't stand it. I'm in Texas where it's normally warm, so I don't handle cold well at all. I'm so impressed by those of you who can live in much colder houses without the heat on yet!

I had to turn it on, but I let it run for about 20 minutes and it warmed up to 62 and I turned it off. Hubby came home and he said he was fine with that.
After cooking dinner and running the dishwasher it has stayed at 62 the last few hours. I have my snuggle suit on and I'm sipping some tea, I'm pretty comfy.
Hello Robin from the Gorge ! wow it can really get cold over there, and those ice storms can last forever. Hope it's not too cold this winter !

When our house got to 55, I turned on to warm it to 60 and then turned it off a few times. We're good bundlers over here, but it's always a sign when your ice cubes don't melt in a glass left out overnight.

I woke up this morning --- frrrreezing --- I went to turn the heat on because I couldn't take it anymore, the display wasn't on - I couldn't turn the heat on -- took me a few minutes (about 30) to figure out that the kids had turned the switch off in the basement after playing (it looks like a light switch) --- so I had time to reconsider turning the heat on -- it's working again now, I just had to reset it -- and it's about 58 -- brrrrr..... but I haven't turned it on yet -- I can do it!

Our heat has been on for about 10 days now. It's set at 59* most of the time. I think I have it to warm up to 62* first thing in the morning. It doesn't seem to come on much. I don't find myself obsessing over it as much as I did last year. I don't know why though.
We're on the budget plan and we still have a credit (meaning our budget plan has been more than our actual bill), although I'm sure that will be blown away by January. January is always our highest electrical usage month.

Oh my--the truth comes out. We are big boo-hoo babies about the cold. DH turned the heat on a couple weeks ago...and we live in south GA! It has gotten down to freezing twice. That is cold for us!
Although I am a fully assimilated Southerner, I was actually born and raised in the Midwest and braved many years of Lake Effect snows and blizzards. I complained about the cold like most folks, but it never really bothered me. Now I am miserable when I'm up North in the winter. My family teases me and calls me Belle. It's amazing how your body interprets true cold when you live in a steamy, hot climate.
