Default How Much Do You Save With a Timer on the Water Heater?

I'm trying to cut corners everywhere. We only use gas for heat, but we don't even use that because we heat with a wood stove. Everything else is electric. I've been keeping my light off during the day and using candles some evenings. I hang my clothes out to dry. Try to cook everything stove top or in oven at the same meal. I also chaged most bulbs to energy saving kind. Now it's time to tackle the water heater. So if you use a timer, how much does it save you? Thanks

We had an all electric house about 10 years ago and we put a timer on our hotwater heater. It did save quite a bit on my electric bill. Depending on your rates and how long you have it shut off and at what temperature you have the water set at would probably determine your savings. If I remember right we saved at least $25 a month by using the timer. We only had the water heater on for maybe 2 hours or so a day.

I just asked a neighbor who has the same style and size house as mine. She is all electric. I use oil for heat and hotwater. My last electric bill was $64 and hers was $100. She told me she didnt use any heat last month. That is a $36 difference. So I think you would save at least $25 maybe even more!
