Default I took a major plunge....

Ok ladies, I just called our internet/cable/phone provider and I took out Cable completely and went down in cable modem speed, which she reassured me is still even faster than a DSL line.

So I knocked off $48.86 off our bill + a few more dollars in taxes and surcharges, so let's say $50! I am sooooo happy and DH agreed about the cable so that's $50 + more a month we have, I haven't felt this excited in a long time YAY

That is great! $50 is over half of your monthly food budget. That could also be a good start for the EF.

$50 a month extra is great and I admire you for doing without cable tv. It's one of our only forms of entertainment.

Since you do not watch tv that much I am sure you will appreciate not having that expense. (I believe I read that in another one of your posts.) There are plenty of movies at the local library.

If you feel a real difference with your new internet connection you can switch back quickly, just another phone call, right? We have FIOS through Verizon. We had the greatest speed possible and then we looked at the price and decided to downgrade. We still have FIOS but not the fastest connection. To be honest I do not see a difference.

You should be really proud of yourself. You are working really hard at all of this.

Good for you, that's awesome. When my ex and I were first living together, we had cable television mysteriously hooked up to our television and we never paid for it. We never mentioned it to the landlord and were entertained by cable TV for two years. Then we moved away for a year. When we came back, we were lucky to get another apartment in the same building and again, we had cable TV for a while. But shortly after another new tenant came into the building, we lost our cable. We figure the new tenant called the cable company and asked why he hadn't received a bill or something. Regardless, once it was gone, we couldn't afford to get it back.

Now, with we thought about getting cable, but we decided it wasn't worth the money for what we'd watch (i.e. The Food Network and A&E). So we opted to not get anything for the TV. Our rabbit ears work well enough that we get CBC, CTV and Global Atlantic and the French channel (but neither of us speak French so it's not much good to us), but that's about it. And there's no shows on mainstream TV that we're really that interested in.

We pay for the internet and the radio is free, so we get lots of entertainment from those two to say the least.

We did that a few times through the years. It really helped us with our goals.
We went without cable tv for two years and didn't miss it. I even ran FV with a dial up connection for quite a while.

    Good for you.

Good for you....I keep toying with the idea of doing what you did, but keep putting it off! $50 more in your pocket! Yay!
