    Default OMG my water bill!!!

The whole time we've lived here, our water bill has been between 19 and 30 bucks. Last month I got a 50 dollar bill and today I opened a $100 bill!! WOW!! I don't understand. DH had to turn off the water from the master bath toilet because it was leaking....Could there be something else wrong? How can it possibly go up so much so quick?!

I would have them come and check for a leak somewhere!

A leaky toilet can really cost a lot. I know. I had $120 water bill from one. Get hubby to check all the plumbing for leaks, and get the water company to come check the calibration on the meter. It might be on their end. If there is a leak between the meter and the house, it's their fault, and they have to adjust your bill.

Is there anyway for you to read your meter? If so, you may be able to tell if there is a leak. Turn off anything that uses water in your house. Don't flush the toliets and then walk out to read your meter. If the needle is spinning, then you have a leak. If it is still, there is no leak. We have had to do this a few times ourself.

Be sure to check the line from the meter to the house. We found out that ours was cracked. And the b-- of it all is that we couldnt find anyone that just wanted to fix just the broken area, they wanted to charge to do the complete line from meter to house. We ended up digging our own and putting in a completely new pvc piping. But it was a job...

I agree w/what everyone else has said. I'd call the local water dept. and ask them what needs to be done. I believe you're on Hardin Co. Water #2.

Instead of paying one set rate for all water used, your water company may charge on a tiered scale.
One rate up to a certain usage, then a higher rate once you go over that amount.
Sewage: The more water used, the higher the fee for sewage water.

You may also be using more water in the summer (watering lawns and garden, kiddie swimming pool fill up...)

oh, yikes, that would be a bummer to open

I'd check the meter if you have one that you can read. You may have a leak somewhere else. The utility company may be able to check it out. We used to check the needle periodically just like mom23boys said.

Good luck with solving the problem, hope the bill goes down next month.

I had to call the water company yesterday and they tried to tell me where the meter would be, but I couldn't find it. Anyways, someone is coming tomorrow to check it out. Anything I can say to them to keep from paying the whole bill?

Yes, when ours high and it turned out it was broken. They gave us a credit after we showed that we had fixed it. It is worth a try.

I was just going to send you an PM to see what water dept. said. Did they come out and find problem? I would just ask them if there was a way for you to pay part now and part later. Most co. here in town are pretty good about working w/you. Pays to live in a small community.

No leak, I have to pay the bill. I'm guessing when we went to MI the girl who watched our house left the hose on to dribble for god knows how long. Our bill for this month will only be 25 bucks, back to normal. I swear, I am mad at her. She swears up and down she didn't, but I know better.
