Oh waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
I just got our eletric bill... well there goes what I was going to put into savings this month. $180
and I know it's all the A/C. I was expecting it to be around $125.
Dh wasn't here last summer (deployed) and I only turned the A/C on part of the day and it really kept the bill down. But now that he's here and I'm pregnant and can't handle the heat well we have been keeping the A/C at 70º. We have no ceiling fans (darn rental house) and it's an older so not that well insulted house so even with it being at 70º once it hits 95º outside it stays between 75º and 80º inside. It's been horrible this last week with temps in the 100s. We do have one little fan and Dh is bringing a bigger box fan he got for work home for us, I'm hoping that is going to help.
I'm just so upset it was so much more then I was planning and the money that was going into our baby fund has to go to pay that extra.

I'm sorry Tammi. I know how you feel. Dh turns the air down more when he's home, but it's been HOT here with the temps outside averaging 100 or higher. There is not much we can do. I finally conceded that it was better to pay a little more (or so I'm hoping) and be more comfortable than to be hot, miserable, dehydrated, etc....summer heat and pregnancy do not mix. Hopefully these temps will cool down and give us all a much needed break.

You must be in Texas like me! My electric bill was $245.00 and we live in a 2 bedroom apartment! I about passed out when I saw the bill. My husband has been home during the summer along with the kids, so I know WHY it's so high. Kids go in/out the front door probably over 200 times per day.
I did plan on it being higher than expected but not THIS high. Temps here today are 104.
Hang in there

I hate these 100 degree temps! I don't think they are helping anyone's electric bill. I hate to see what ours is going to be for August. July wasn't too bad, but the a/c has ran more this month than last.

I'm so sorry! I know how it feels, mine jumped up almost $100 this month! The box fan should help a little. It is more important that you are comfortable right now!

I'm sorry. The same thing happened to us this month. Ours jumped up 90 bucks from last month and it totally blew my budget. Here's to cooler weather ASAP so we can lower our bills.

I haven't got ours yet, but I'm dreading it. In May it was $89, June $130, July was $175. Going by that trend, it will prob be over $200. Ugh.

Haven't looked at ours yet, but...
we have managed this year with only 1 airconditioner (2 story 2,000' house!) so far.
If you have a choice between putting the conditioner in a north or south facing window, try putting it in the north side, it's usually cooler so the conditioner doesn't work so hard. Then use one of your fans to move the colder air from the north side of the house to the hotter, south side.
That's what we did this year, and we haven't put in the 2nd coditioner at all!
I don't know if this helps you, but I offer it in case it can! Good luck!

Gah. Ours was $210 last month. Our rental doesn't have ceiling fans, either. We were even out of town on vacation for an entire week.
