Default Switched the electric to our name!

So, our electric was in our landlords name, and she was paying it. But, she would never show me a paper bill, and it kept going up. Today in the mail came an envelope for her from them, it said she owed $245.00 of late payment. I promptly called and had it switched into our name. I can't wait to show her this paper.

Good move, it sounds like she probably would expect you to pay the late charges!

WOW, smart move on your part to change it in your name. Or you might have come home to a dark house. Landlady sounds a little shady to me.

Question, so you don't get into trouble: was the letter addressed to her? Did you open it? If so, she could flip out and charge you with mail tampering. Just FYI.

You accidentally opened it when you were opening your mail. If it was in her name I don't think it was ok that you changed things without consulting her. Hopefully she won't give you a hard time about it.
    Good luck Julie!

She wanted us to put the electric in our name! We just hadn't gotten around to it.

I would just seal it up and write wrong address on the bill and put it back in the mail.

Lol Kathy. Glad you had her OK Julie, I didn't know. Whew. I'd still just tell her I opened it when I was opening my bills, figuring it was another one of mine. I don't always read the addy on the envelope...

That really makes you wonder if she's been giving you accurate bills or if she's been paying whatever she wants, late or otherwise... That's a shame. I hope she doesn't give you a hard time about those current charges.
