Question What do you cook together?

I have an old (1970s) phamphlet from Niagra Mohawk Power, I think, that's about cooking an entire meal together. And I do this, but not enough.

For example, yesterday, I baked bread and mini muffins and heated stew together. (The last 2 trays of muffins had to go in on their own, darn it.)

Do you plan your meals this way? It seems that I only really manage this when I'm baking bread and then I'll bake potatoes or whatever.

    Tips are welcome! Suggestions?

    Thanks in Advance --

    Judi

I don't really bake that much, at least when it's hot out, but I use the crock pot a lot, so I cook a lot of things together. he he

Last night I put a big dutch oven of water to boil. I dropped one frozen boneless skinless chicken breast in the pot while it was heating up.

Maenwhile I made a packaged alfredo sauce in a sacuse pan but added one can cream of mushroom soup and some frozen spinach to the mixture and heated it all up together.

When my water boiled I left the chicken and added my noodles. Half way through I took out the chicken and cut it up and readded it to the pasta pot to finish cooking.
When the pasta was done I drained the whole pot with noodles and chicken and then put it back in the pan and poured the sacuse over it.

So instead of cooking chicken. THEN cooking noodles. THEN making sauce and then also cooking spinach I did it all at the same time, 2 burners, 15 minutes and only 2 pots to wash!

I made banana bread yesterday, and since the oven was going to be on for an hour, I whipped up some cookies, too.

Lately, I''ve been using my electric roaster. I can roast something in a casserole dish, also bake a side in a foil pouch, and *sometimes* I can even squeeze in some biscuits. It takes longer to cook, but it uses less electricity & doesn't heat up my house.

I baked chicken one night this week. I scrubbed a bunch of potatoes and filled the whole second rack of the oven with them. (I do have a small oven, though.) We only ate three of the potatoes that night. The rest became twice baked potatoes and are now individually wrapped in my freezer as convenience items.

(Can I call them twice baked, if they were only baked once? The will get the second "baking" when they are heated in the microwave at work.)
