Bubble baths
OK, I see this forum has a bubble bath smiley.
but I know y'all are watching your water consumption and especially HOT water.
How often (if at all) do you take baths? Any of you? I usually shower, but when winter comes, I KNOW I'm gonna miss a hot bath --which I usually would take occasionally only--to warm up, clean up, and relax, all at the same time.
Is it a frugal village sin to bathe?
Do you just allow yourselves one or two baths a month? I'm trying to watch the water bill here, to make up for dh dumping it on the lawn now and then.
Water where we live is GOLD apparently and they charge accordingly.

I don't have a bathtub, but I used to take one about 3 - 4 times a month. Just to lock the door, and relax.

Everyone bathes daily here.
Sometimes more than once a day. The little dog is bathed once a week also. There are really no limitations of any kind on bathing. If someone wants to take a bath versus a shower that is fine. If someone wants to take a thirty or forty-five minute shower that is fine, too. I normally take a bath instead of a shower about 4 or 5 days a week. I fill my tub as full as I can get it and just lay in the tub and read a magazine. I love to relax in a hot tub with a cup of coffee and an issue of People or Marth Stewart Living. The average shower around here is in the 20 minute range.
I just got our most recent water bill in tha mail and it says we used 30,000 gallons last month and the bill is $156.56. I also have been watering my grass for at least 8-10 hours a week and we have to add water to the pool every few weeks. Plus, we do 2-3 loads in the dishwasher everyday and a few loads of laundry daily as well. Dh did ask me a few months ago to cut back on my watering the grass because the water bill was $300. So I did cut back on the grass somewhat.
I could not tell you what our hot water usage is. Everything in our house is electric so the water heater costs are just figured into the power bill. I can tell you that all loads of laundry are done on the "super large size" setting and they are all done in hot water. The dishwasher obvioulsy does everything with hot water and we all use hot water when we take baths/showers.Last edited by Neeley; 08-31-2007 at 03:46 PM.

I personally take a bath anywhere from 3-7 times a week. I scrimp in some areas so I can splurge in others. For example, I take my bubble baths after Wesley is asleep so I can have every light in the house off other than the bathroom light.

I typically shower, very quickly and efficiently, thus I feel no guilt about my occasional splurge in the bathtub. I LOVE a good relaxing soak occasionally, and probably get in about 15 a year. When I do, I do it up right, with relaxing music, a cup of cocoa or a glass of wine, candles, and smell-goodies (may or may not bubble). I sometimes leave the water until it is reasonable (daylight) to carry it outside and pour it on the plants (and I don't put in too much soap for that reason). My water bills vary between $20 and $45 per month, depending on the season, and on the laundry.

My bubble baths are something I won't give up, frugal or not. I usually take one about 5 times a week. It's my relaxation time and I love the scents of the bubble baths that I buy, even if they're just from the Dollar Tree.
As Mrs. McDowell says, it's my little splurge.

I take a nice warm bath every day. No bubble bath due to allergies, but the warmth helps my back.
If my tub was a whirlpool one I would probably never get out.

I have no patience for baths. I just want to get clean & get out, so I shower. My dh laughs that he takes longer in the bathroom than I do. I can get a shower (shaving included) and be dressed w/ hair blow dried & make up on in less than 20 minutes.
We do try to conserve water, but not by limiting baths/showers. We're all generally quick bathers/shower-ers
I worry more about the waste of toilet flushing than the showers. We flush EVERYTIME. No way am I about to deal with that. Yuck. But we have old toilets, like from the 60s so they use a lot of water with every flush...and with six of us it really adds up. I can't wait to replace all three toilets and see the water usage go down

This is my one and only splurge. I have to take a bath every night before I can sleep. I also love Bath and Body Works Bubble bath it makes my skin soft and does not dry it out. I splurge and buy it when they have there semi annual sale. There last sale I got 8 bottles of it for $20. And it should last until the next sale. I do not care what the scent is so what ever they have I will buy.

I usually take a bubble bath once a week - Saturday or Sunday night. Warm bubbles (and a little wine) are the best for reducing stress.
Just so you don't think I'm stinky, I shower on the other days.

My BF is the bath person... he loves to sit in the tub with his homemade bath salts (that I taught him how to make...LOL). I'm the quickie shower person. In, shampoo, condition, wash, shave if necessary, rinse and out. We bathe/shower every day with no limits. If we feel hot, icky or sore, we bathe/shower. I'll eat beans and weinies every day for the rest of my life before I give up bathing.
P.S. I'll eat beans and weinies every day just so I can flush every time too!!Kim

Thanks for all the responses guys!
Yankeemom--I admit I don't stay in very long, I just am lazy and like a sit-down bathing. I do it mostly for warming up in winter months and TRYING to relax.
But I feel better about the few times I DO bathe. I'm usually in the shower for less than 5 minutes, so I save there. I conditioner-wash (no shampoo) and then soap up, rinse off, and I'm out. I shave with an electric. dh has never noticed the diff. and I couldn't care less anymore. LOL!
And my 21 yr old ds (Mr. 25 minute showerer) is not here anymore, so that saves.
My bath-taking started in my kids' hockey days, when I would sit in ice cold ice rinks all winter and FREEZE. So I would come home and take a hot bath. It was my "I've been a good hockey-mom" reward. That and a crock pot meal with a breadmaker loaf. Yum.

Yankeemom, I agree. I can't relax in the tub because I don't have patience to just sit there, even if I have a book. Perhaps if I had a large tub where my entire body could be underwater, rather than having my torso out so that my feet can be in and vice versa (and I'm only 5'6"). As for flushing, b/c I am the one who cleans, I always flush. If only I could get my husband and 4 yr old to see it my way. When I potty train my 18 month old, hopefully he'll see the way of mom

i used to take a bath once a week for relaxation purposes. put now because of fms i have a hard time getting in and out of a tub. so now i'll take a longer shower than normal when aches and pains are flaring up. our tubs in this town house are much shallower than in the house we used to rent, so even if i could get in and out of the tub, baths just arent as relaxing anymore. a little bit of a spurge in water can be priceless for your mood.
