Default for all with front load washers

did you see a drastic drop in your water or electric bill after you switched to a front load from a top load washer? How much did you save a month? We are looking into maybe getting a set of front load machines if we can justify it with the savings. We have a family of 5, so I wash alot of clothes. Most people in our area's water bill runs between 15-30 dollars a month, our has been $45. Do you think it would pay for itself in time?

We just bought a new washer and dryer recently and we paid a little more and got the washer that spins longer or faster, both are Samsung products the washer has and energy star on it. I just started watching my electric bill closely again. But the clothes , like the nylon ones come out practically dry, so If you use a dryer, I could see a big savings in these. We also got 0% financing with these, I think from Lowes or Home Depot.

If we decided to get a set we would be getting them intrest free for 12 months through Home Depot. I thought that if it saved enough money and we applied that money right back on the credit card we would have a good bit paid off before any money was even due.

I know the washer also saves water, and we get charged on usage, but if you are on well water, not much advantage. I also like the no agitator, so you save money on your clothes not getting messed up.

I know cutting back our dryer use from 6 loads a week to 3 saved us $20cdn/mth. And that's a regular dryer, not a low cost energy efficient one. Our dryer is 24 years old.

We're looking at replacing with front loaders too, so I'm interested in what people have to say about this.

I have had my front loader for 2 years now. We seen a drop in our water bill of $10 the first month we got it and it has not gone up since.
I do laundry for 4 people with an average of 1 load a day.
You will save on detergent as well. I do not buy the HE soap. I only use about a Tablespoon of regular soap a bottle lasts forever. I also dilute my liquid fabric softener 50/50 with water.
My drier has a sensor that senses when the clothes are dry and shuts off when dry so no wasted electricity. I do not know how much the drier saves since I have not tracked it.
I heard that 2007 is the last year for the top loaders to be made so the front loader is going to be all you will be able to buy.

I have a front loading washer. The military pays our utilities so I don't notice the water bill-but I'm pretty sure it's cheaper than a standard washer. The big difference I noticed is my clothes last longer. The aggetator in the regular washer would wear down my clothes so quick!

I have had mine for about 2 yrs and my water bill and electric are a lot lower but I dont know if that has more to do with the washer or if it becuase we moved. I will say that i can say for sure I use a lot less detergent and softner. My dryer only runs about 20 minutes and thats with a heavy load. I use to have to wait for the dryer to finish before putting in the next load. I am very happy with my LG machines.

I am also very happy with my front loader. Our water bill was down $15/over 3 months. But, I also have teens that like to take long showers and I've been bugging them about that! But, the drying time is CONSIDERABLY less!

we've had our bosch front load washer/dryer set for about a year now and we LOVE it! not only does it save money on your water bill, but it's much gentler on your clothes so they last much longer. also we got the dryer with the "dry sensors"....so our dryer stops once things are dry, instead of a timed setting where it just keeps going until the buzzer goes off. this not only saves electricity, but also saves your clothes.

all in all we are really happy with them!

I am new here but thought I would jump in. I have a front load washer and dryer (Maytag). I love love love them! I use ton's less liquid soap. I use the new Arm & Hammer Essentials (great price easy on environment). I used to buy HE soap but the secret is to just use less. The HE soap doesn't make as much suds (what I was told) as regular. I haven't noticed my water bill being cheaper though (I am sure it is) but I just don't pay attention. The great thing about my washer is the spin cycle. The better the washer spins, the less electricity it takes to dry your clothes!

    Good luck in your purchase!

FYI, I also don't buy fabric softener anymore. For my loads that do require it, I just use plain old white vinegar. It works great for static cling!

I don't know how it affected the water bill when we got our front loader, but I know the clothes came out so much dryer with the super spin. I also know the clothes come out SO MUCH cleaner than with our old top loader, or any top loader I have used. I've washed clothes I thought had unremovable spots on them after washing them repeatedly in different top loaders, then washed them in my parent's front loader and the spots were gone!
