Question Do You Waste Money and Energy?

I was reading the morning 'news stories' headlines while sipping my tea before work and I came across these articles which I thought I'd share. I had a hunch - b/c I learned from y'all here at the village about this - but I guess I never knew how much it could impact me as well as how easy it is to just waste energy w/o knowing it. False hope.

I think I may look into ways to conserve energy again - I seem to have gotten off that path the last time I was thinking about it.

What do you ladies think? And what do you do to try to conserve energy/money?

I read that article too. I am good at turning off the computer cmpletely when it is not in use so I don't need to worry about that one. The one thing that we are guilty of is leaving the cell phone charger in- I try to remember to unplug it- my hubby is the one who tries to stick it back in all the time! I have to talk to him about that one!

I know by turning and turning off certain high energy ones also doesnt save because your constantly putting the switch on and off. I understand about leaving the puter on all the time and the hard drive thing wearing out faster. But kids going into rooms and turning the switch on and off many times in a room doesnt help the elec. either. I have proof for that bill years ago. lol

I try to keep the computer off as much as possible, and even when it's on, I turn the monitor off instead of running a screen saver, which uses more energy. One thing about sleep mode, it makes copies of all your programs, so you'll end up with a lot of extra stuff on your computer that is really hard to get off.

Us, too. We keep the desktop on 24/7. Plus, we keep both laptops plugged in and on 24/7. The only time the desktop is turned off is when we go on vacation. We take the laptops with us and they stay on even then.

I think everyone does it but the question is whether you are in control of what you are doing.

I'm not a lady, and the first link doesn't go to a specific article, but I'll throw in my two cents. I used to leave the computer on all day, but then noticed that the room it was in was hotter, as well as the electricity bill was higher.

As far as standby power, I'm still trying to determine how long I can have things like my TV and receiver go without power before it loses settings. Saving power, but having to redo all of my TV settings, isn't worth it to me.

I have got to start doing more of these things. We shower at the gym, don't use the dryer but I keep my computer, shredder, sweeper, phone charger and the list goes on...
