    Default Light Bulbs

When we purchased our new home this past summer, I put in the contract to have the builder/seller put light bulbs in all of the bathrooms. They are the vanity style lights, that can cost and arm and a leg to get the bulbs for. He did it and also put bulbs in the ceiling fan in the MBR. My husband and I had decided to use all energy effiecent bulbs through out the house. We replaced the bulbs in the bedroom with energy efficent ones and used those that were in there for our porch lights. So my question is: should we repalce the ones in the bathrooms with energy effiecent ones? How much does a EF bulb use in electricity? I am rather green , so I would prefer not to put good bulbs in the landfill or spending more money until we have too. But I don't want to run our electric bill up neither. Any help would be great! Thanks!

I don't have many lights because I live in an apartment and my electric is very low. But, last winter, I put a cfl in my main lamp. My bill went from $13.00 a month to $8.00 a month. Just one bulb made a $5.00 difference. Significant saving.

i too saw a significant drop in our electric just by changing out the bulbs. not to mention i haven't replaced a bulb in 2 years as opposed to every few months with the others.

    Cool

My husband explained to me about the whole deal on how they work and that they don't generate heat, etc... They are great! We used them when we lived in England and never had to change one! They are a little harsh and bright though. I think I am a little leary of having them in the bathroom blazing at me in all my glory!

    Question Still Debating

Okay, DH and I are still debating on whether to replace all of the bathroom vanity bulbs with the energy ones or wait until the burn out. Any suggestions on what someone else would do? Many thanks!

How about a compromise and use half and half. I don't know how they would look but you might be able to do every other one or top row one type and sides the other. Then you can save the half you removed and replace the half left in as they burn out. You'll at least get half the savings from the lower energy bulbs and twice the life of the regular bulbs. Just a thought from my little pea brain.
