Hey it worked!
I bought a light timer for the chest freezer in the basement last month (on clearance for 1.25). I just got this month's bill yesterday and it had dropped by $8 over the average of the last 2 months' bills. Yay! Thas is in spite of running the blower on the wood burner nearly round the clock for probably a week or so.
My dh thought it would raise the bill since it would have to keep working to cool it back down from being off for so long, so I wasn't sure what to expect.
I decided to drop it down another notch since I noticed no change in the temp or hardness of the food. Just had to share.

What is a light timer? Is it for the basement or for the freezer? Forgive me for not understanding.

Sorry I didn't explain that too well.
It is usually used for lights, like a lamp to make people think someone is home when they're out of town. Or for outdoor christmas lights. You plug it into an outlet than plug whatever into it and set the times you want it on and off.
Dh was pretty sure the bill would increase with it on there, so I was nervous about getting the bill....I kinda hate I told you so's since I made a big deal to him about how much it would reduce it. Was glad I didn't hav to eat my words.

Timers
They are most often call "appliance times" or lights timers.
You plug the timer in and them plug the appliance into the timer.
One of there primary uses is to switch table lamps on and off on a time schedule while you are away such as on vacation as a security device.
Smart folks have been using them in other useful ways.
The inexpensive ones work OK just make sure to only power one thing at a time with one of them.
I am thinking of making one that works like a parking meter. Put a quarter in and you can watch TV for half an hour.

Ok, I get what the timer is (I have 2 of them on my downstairs lamps) but I don't get why you would use them on a freezer... I'm lost there.

~I love that tokentv idea! But the tokens look like quarters. It seems to invite cheating! But, to comment on the original topic, that's pretty creative thinking Denise! Glad you saved some $!~

I'm curious also, how do you set it for a freezer? We're about th start using ours and I'd like to run it as efficiently as possible.
