What is your thermostat set at?
In the Winter what do you keep your thermostat set at?
Last year I was cold if the house was cooler then 72, this year we have it set at 58. It may seem extreme, but with oil prices are they are it needs to be done. It really is not cold now that we are use to it, we just wear sweat pants and sweat shirts around the house. I even noticed today that now that we have the house cooler I do not need my showers as hot (water is electric) I use to have the hot turned all the way up now I just need it turned half way. I am excited to see how much I save this winter!!Last edited by yonksgirl; 12-02-2007 at 05:55 PM. Reason: Spelling

I'm still using the a/c, but since we keep it set at 80 it doesn't come on very often. I sure don't miss having to buy heating oil!

I keep my apartment at 68-70 when I'm here a lot. It's a small place, and I don't pay for heat. DBF's is around 60-64 in the living room, and cooler upstairs. I wish I could deal with things being colder. At his house, I wear 2 layers of clothes and 2 pairs of socks, and I'm still usually huddled under a blanket. I seriously think something is wrong with me. My cold body parts are still cold the next morning, sometimes.

Thermostat setting
We keep our house at 68 during the day and 62 at night during the heating season. We just put the electric blanket on the bed today (12/2/07), so I may move the night time setting down to 60 if I can get away with it.

We keep ours set between 70-72 degrees but our heat is included in the rent that we pay so we don't pay extra for it. When I did pay for heat I kept it down around 65 degrees when I was home and around 55 degrees when I wasn't home.

This heater is set at 68 and it feels freezing to me!! I've been trying all weekend to stay warm by drinking hot tea and just keeping busy. I have a shirt & 2 sweat jackets on.
The thermostat is old and I think it may be wrong. We are getting a new heater sometime this month (as soon as dh's buddy can fit the job in). I want a new thermostat with an easy-to-use timer!

well, my apartment's on the 2nd floor, only one room (studio), and very small so it collects and retains heat very well. I usually just have to turn the heat on after sunset and once it hits the temp and stops I can turn it off and not really use it the rest of the night.
I guess right now it's at "75," but like I said, I don't really let it run regularly because it's unnecessary.
Even though I don't pay for heat or electricity here, my environmental conscience bugs me to never leave the heat on while I'm gone, when I'm sleeping, or anytime when I'm heating the apartment up with a shower, the oven, the stove, etc.

We've set it to 66 degrees, but the last few days have felt REALLY cold, so I've been bumping it to 68... either that, or taking long hot baths to warm back up!
I need to do something about that.... The one weird thing, though, is that our inside thermometer (separate from thermostat) is reading 64/65 even when I've got the heat on at 68. Maybe it's near a drafty window? Hm. We already wear layers/slippers. I'm going to try to stick to 66 and do some jumping jacks when I get cold!

We only use our heat during the night, in Jan. and Feb. Otherwise I really don't need it on.

It's set at 59*F most of the time. About 3 hrs a day it's programmed to turn up to 62*F.
We have a woodstove that we supplement with. But even with the woodstove going, it doesn't get much warmer than 60-62*F.
What's funny is, we are so used to it being a little cooler that every time we go somewhere else we sweat are collective buns off.
