    Default Best Electric Bill Ever!!!!

So i decided to start unplugging the tv, cable box, microwave, etc in the morning before I left for work last month. Honestly I was a bit skeptical about the whole thing...but after getting my electric bill....I am in shock!

My bill for last month was $55.17 That was for 1900 sq ft house with $17 of that being for trash pick-up. I am so excited

It was an easy habit to get into and my 5 year knows her responsible is to unplug the tv and cable box before we leave. She doesnt even ask anymore she just does it. I am so excited about this (and i feel silly for being so excited about it)

Wow!!!! That is such an eye opener for me!!!! So all you have to do is unplugg everything after you are done using it? The TV uses energy when it is turned off?

Yes, it's called phantom electricity loads. Some appliances use up to 80% of the power they need when NOT turned on but still plugged in. Although this is one of those pennies and nickels add up to dollars situations, I noticed a huge difference on this bill.

Here's something that kind of puts things into perspective, and also something I didnt find out til today..

If you use your microwave oven an average of 7 minutes a day or less, the clock on the microwave oven will actually use more energy during the year than microwave itself!

Yeah! I am so happy for you. It is amazing how much these phantom users account for on the total bill. We noticed a big difference when we did similar.

How much did you save over a typical bill, and was this the only thing you did to reduce the bill?
