Arrow elec bill still too high

lat month was $171.11 that was hook up, sewage, water, elec srevice cahrge and gst plus the amount we used: $171.11
This month we used on energy at 910kwh--$0.11790 + $107.29 beofre all the extras. with everyhting its $166.91.
I know we had major problems with our furnace , too much air in lines, so it came on more to compenstae and try to heat the bedrroms. Plsu we had the furnace guy here twice. That cant help it . So I guess Im unhooking evrything after this for the next month what I aint using. I already cut down on athe dryer and dishwasher.

miss_thrifty: We live in SK and if we combined water, sewer, garbage and electric last month, we'd be paying around $120cdn. for 550 kWh of electricity.

We're in a 1928 2 storey home with older appliances. We've switched as many lightbulbs to CFLs as possible. I usually have the computer and a radio on all day. Plus I sew and cook from scratch. We have 3 adults living here.

I have all my lightbulbs as CFL's... I dont unlpug many things but I do try to not use electic as much as I can but that doesn't always work with the kids, my bill averages about $55 a month for a family of 3 and sometimes 4 or 5 on weekends.

i figures since last month was 25 days ( at over $3 )a day and this months bil was 31 days over $4 aday. I still thins its got to do with the furnace and since it has to kick in so many times plus my landlord who uses the shop for his buisness (carpentry) thats why its so high.
Hubby said will just do our best to get it lower and thats all we can do.
The wood stove was used 5 times so far including tonite.
So maybe that will help lower it.

I unhooked my ice maker to see if it makes a difference in my elec bill. I live alone so don't use much ice and can fill and use ice trays alot cheaper than having the ice maker running I think. I'll know next month.

Sounds to me it's the landlord running the bill up with his carpentry. Power tools take a lot of electricity to run.

Electricity is a tough one to cut back on, especially in the winter when it's dark so early. We do our best around here, but I feel like that bill could always go lower. I'm just not always sure what we could possibly do at this point to get those numbers to go down!

I have finally unplugged the microwave. Will be interested to see if that helps with the bill. I just keep on thinking I can do better and that the bill seems high for just one person when comparing with other peoples bill.

I have to work on DH regarding the 2nd fridge in the basement. I don't know how many of you guys have this, but around here seems like almost everyone has a 2nd beat up fridge. I read that they cost approx $100/year to run. That's a lot just to keep the beer cold!! Hopefully DH will agree to gettin rid of the thing. LOL

Our electricity provider just announced a rate hike!!

So I REALLY have to buckle down to some hard-core savings strategies. Wish me luck with DD-----she is not exactly on board with my campaign to save money.

Zenmama, we had an old fridge in our shed outside. We decided to unplug that thing once it's fall and turn it back on in the late spring. We used it only for beer/wine. We now have the beer and wine on the floor in the shed and it's just as cold.

I too was a little bummed by the electric bill I got yesterday. Ive been pretty diligent lately, but it was $104 this month compared to $75 the month before. I think its probably the heater, though I really havent turned it on all that much. This month, Im going to try absolutely no heater, see if it helps.

unplug it and keep the beer outside in the winter, my DH keeps his beer on the back porch in the winter and it is always frost cold and free, we also have a dorm sized fridge that is unplugged but he could use that if he really really really needed to
