How much water do you use?
We just got our water bill. For this quarter we used an average of 183 gallons per day. I'm going to try to do better, but this is something I've never paid any attention to, unless we are in a drought. We are charged approximately $5.50 per thousand gallons (+ a $40. fee). If I can consistently keep it down it will also reduce next year's sewer bill.
I'm just wondering where I stand in water usage compared to others
. Am I a water hog? I should add that we have 2 adults, and 2 teenagers (who stink and really need those multiple showers).

I'll have to look at my bill and see how much I'm actually using, but I know I'm paying $45 every 3 months, that works out to $15 a month. It's just me, one adult. I read in the news that our local water rates are going to double in 4 years, so that will be $30 a month at my current consumption. I want to start learning ways to conserve water now so I won't feel the increase when it happens.

Wow. My bill is MUCH higher than both of yours, but it includes both water and sewer charges and I'm not sure what the rate is per gallon. My 3 month bill received in Dec was $154. During this bill period we had someone staying with us for 2 of the 3 months who was a water/shower hog, but still.
We are surrounded by water. We live in Niagara Falls for crying out loud! Why am I paying so much for the one thing we have PLENTY of around here!?!
Hmmm... time to do some serious bill reading....
I'll let you know my bill rate and actual usage soon.Jen

I will have to check on my next bill to see my water useage. My monthly bill is around $35. It may go up or down a few dollars, but it is never over $40.

Well, you piqued my curiousity, and so I pulled out our water bill from the last quarter. We paid $41.75 for 13 hundred cubic feet of water (interesting method of measurement for water). However, I see that from our past history, the November - February quarter is always when we use the most...39 hundred cubic feet to be exact. I can't even imagine why that is. I'm gonna be paying VERY close attention to our water usage!

~We use less than 110 gallons a day. I don't know how much less because we're billed a set fee for the first 10,000 gallons every 3 months and $2.50 for each additional 1000 gallons. We've been over once the seven years we've lived here. Our washer is a water hog but I try to get it really full of clothes before I run it. I'm currently running 5 loads a week. My dishwasher uses just 6 gallons of water every day. I keep refilled water bottles in the fridge so I don't have to run the tap when I want cold water. My kids have a bath only twice a week and they still share. DH and I take fairly short showers, about 7-10 minutes. I don't water my lawn. I do water my small flower bed in the summer. I imagine our usage will skyrocket when the kids hit their teens.~

These replies are killing me! Our last bill was $108!! That's one month for water, sewer, and trash pickup. We have a family of 8 and homeschool, so we are home all the time, apparently running water nonstop. I almost fell over when I saw the usage of 17,000 gallons. That's in a month with no outside watering. We do 3 loads of laundry a day, 2 dishwasher runs, baths every other day for the kids, flush the toilet a zillion times, but still...I'm going to call and find out how to read our meter myself (it's an electronic enclosed gadget) and check for a leak or something.

This thread got me curious so I dug our water statement out of the garbage...I've never paid attention to the number of gallons used, I've always looked at dollar amounts.
Our bill runs about $25-$35 monthly. This billing cycle shows I used 224 gallons/day. This is for a family of 4."We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen; For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

My bill was $110 for 3 months. That is for 48 cubic metres - which, according to some internet conversion calculator, is equal to 12,680 US gallons - approximately 140 gallons a day.
I have a teenager who won't get out of the shower.

I just went to our water works website and checked our usage history. In the summer our water bill will get as high as $300 a month depending on the amount of rain we get. Our highest months in the past year were June and July. We used 30,000 gallons one month and 29,000 the other. I water our yard almost everyday (that it does not rain) for several hours at a time (ugly yards are a pet peeve of mine - I have to have green grass). So the less rain we get the more water we use. This summer were in extreme drought conditions and I watered the yard pretty much everyday and added water to the pool every couple of days.
Our average usage for months when we are not in such a drought is in the 15,000 to 20,000 range and the bill is $150 or more range. DH does a couple of loads of laundry everyday, DD does at least two loads in the dishwasher, we have two teens who take LONGGGGGGGG showers, the dog gets frequent baths, plus DH and I take 20 -30 minutes showers every day.
Our water bill also includes in a $12 charge for our trash, recycle, yard debris (leaves, tree limbs, grass, etc...) and household garbage (old furniture, tv's, bikes, mattresses, carpet, etc...pick-up and all sewage. We are billed monthly.Last edited by Neeley; 12-27-2007 at 10:29 PM.

Our bill is 85.40 euros (125USD) for 3 months. We used 105m3 for the whole year in 2006. In 2007 we used 88m3 so our bill will be much less about(113 USD) for 3 months.

In the winter we use approximately 30,000 gallons of water per month. It's more than 65,000 gallons/month in the summer due to evaporation from the pool. Our bills range from $175 to $250 per month, including sewer and garbage. Last summer we had a $300 bill one month due to a broken sprinkler head that wasted I don't know how many gallons of water before it was discovered.
