Thanks Birney, I think you just saved us alot of money, reading your hints, put ideas in our heads..
Our over 100 yr old house has a big draft. We thought it as from the cat door we have in the bedroom. This room is always real cold, or hot. The window was suppose to be NEW, and was installed before we bought the house.
After reading your tips, we decided to thumb tack an oversize, thick towel over the window,, Just to see what happened..
Well to everyone's surprise... the room, I swear is 40 degrees warmer.. Its almost like there is no window in there!!
Thanks for the idea.. now we need to replace the window. I'm sure if we are losing that much heat, the cool in the summer isn't in staying either!!
Also we are going to try that insulating paint, maybe that will help with the plaster. Thanks Again!Pine trees, with their needles pointing up to heaven, represent everlasting light and life.

Thanks for Your Kind Words
I am glad I could help you save some energy. I love Older houses. When we lived up in Michigan we had a monster of a house that was built in 1874. It was Great but a lot of work.
Wish we still had it.

Thank you so much for all your helpful information.
I was just talking about the dryer vent on utilities and then I start reading your site and you discuss the do's and don'ts and that has been very helpful.
I have a window in the family room (basement) and have that plastic you blow dry on and the stuff just never sticks correctly. So I'm going to try and old blanket we have and it will not look bad on the window either. Its thicker and I just think it will work.
You have so much more I need to read.
So thanks again.Maggi

A window quilt sounds like a great idea for my daughter's room. She doesn't have a view and would love to have her room warmer. Thank you for the tips!
