I think I know how you feel. Our electric bill went up to $155 just for electric this time. We had no more than tree lights from our Christmas tree, so nothing new added. And we don't have a water bill since we have a septic system. Our trash bill is seperate.

mine too. They raised the KWH rates and also the monthly facility charge. guess the christmas lights and running the blower on the wood burner pushed it up too. I budgeted 85, but it was 110.37!

I called mine in and they said it wasn't
current to what I had been paying.
Called them and it was $250.00
last month $160.00
DS was off work for 2 weeks and he had every light on and his tv and xbox on I think constantly when he wasn't out shopping.
I expected it though because of Christmas and will get it back down to $150.00 this month. To be One With The Universe In Spirit, Mind and Body

My last electric bill was $160.00. I about croaked when I saw it. I know it was from our outdoor Christmas lights. Still, I can't imagine NOT doing lights. It's a big deal for my family to decorate. So, I try to remind myself one of the reasons why we're cutting back on non important things....is so we can afford to do things that matter to us....such as Christmas lights.

I feel your pain. My electric bill was over $100 and I don't even heat with electricity. My entire house (stove, furnace, clothes dryer) are all on natural gas. I don't leave lights on all the time (though I do leave one on if I'm going to be gone all night so it looks like somebody is home). I'm not quite sure why it's so high, except that right now in California it costs a fortune just to breathe the air, so I'm sure the electric company is gouging us too.

A couple of months ago we had a roommate move out and our daughter moved downstairs into the room he had. Well I was excited because I thought the electric bill would go down since we had 1 less person in the house and also because our daughter didn't take her heated waterbed down stairs but got a regular bed instead. The first bill I got was about $37 HIGHER than it had been before!!! Teenagers! We had an electric space heater down there for our roommate and when DD moved in to that room I guess she used the heck out of it! The next month after warning her to shut it off when she was gone the bill was still that high plus about another 5-10 dollars!!! Geeze!!! She has since moved out on her own and I am very curious to see that bill this month. Although I think I saw on my last bill that the rates were going up again! Can't catch a break, I guess.

I don't EVEN want to see the next bill, sigh. With the single digit temps, using 3 heated waterers and the furnace running constantly it's going to be HIGH, ugh!
And we heat with gas, don't EVEN want to go there, that one is going to be SKY HIGH for the last month.
Again, C'mon SPRING!!!
My bills drop WAY down for the late spring/summer/fall so I figure just bite the bullet for the winter months.

We belong to an electric coop and it usually has the cheapest rates around. In fact, our rates have not increased for over 20 years! But this year, the directors said they needed to increase the rates, and yes, our bill increased by about $10 for the month. And that included our 3 days with no power due to an ice storm. But overall, I would recommend electric coops if you have access to one. Because of the structure of ownership, we actually get money back from the coop each year that is equal to about one month of electricity.

we dont have anything like electric coop.
they did put up alternative power--windmills in the western part of the Island when we lived there , like partners in it. But without enough people into it and not enough windmills f, its not any lower in elec.
