Does anyone do thisto heat?
Does anyone open the oven to help heat the house?
when we are super low on oil..(the oil heats the house and water) i shut the doors to the extra rooms and turn on my stand heater and the oven to 450 and it heats the downstairs really well and helps me save on the oil
anyone else do that?
do you think that will hurt my electric bill?..ill find out for sure on the 24th when the bill comes out

The only time I use the oven for heat is when I am baking. When the food is done and I remove it from the oven, I leave the door ajar to let the heat out into the kitchen.

A friend of mine use to do this she's allergic to natural gas and they lived in a trailor court which I guess meant not having a propane tank but they used butane heaters and the stove to heat. It was a small 2 bedroom trailor (and they kept it roasting in there )she never complained about the electric and they lived on a very fixed income.

When I'm finished cooking I turn off the oven, but I open the oven door. I do the same when the dishwasher stops. Might as well have the heat!
If your oven is gas, using it for heat could be dangerous
... but I think from your post yours is electric. Make sure there isn't anything around that can catch on fire, and don't let it run too long... with the door open the thermostat will let it keep running, and it could overheat. Using the oven for heat is definitely not energy efficient, and will probably wear out the oven faster.
How about purchasing a small space heater? The newer ones work great, and aren't too expensive. We have a small ceramic one that we move from room to room.

I just read my post... I hope I didn't sound too bossy. I use to be a landlord, so I've had this conversation before --- and I was the one responsible for replacing the worn-out ovens!

Only while I'm nearby to pay attention. Every year here it seems like somebody burns their house down by leaving the oven going to heat their house when they are gone from it - it has made me a little paranoid. I also leave the door tipped open after baking (with the oven turned off), however, as others have mentioned, and the cats don't go in without it all the way open. If your oven is beneath your stove, you can also put a big pan of water on the stove for the oven to heat while you are baking, then the hot water will provide steam heat for a while after the oven is off.
