My Gas bill?!?!
I Just received our gas bill for month of Jan in the mail! Care to guess how bad it is? It's $119.70
Last month it was only about $30 or $60? HOLY COW!
It's been really cold here but then, we've also had the heat up to about 75... yikes!!! The thermostat is going back down pronto!

I am dreading ours---normally I keep ours set at 68 when we are home and 62 when we are not. But Wesley has been sick, so we bumped it up to 72 to keep him wamr.

I am keeping my heat at about 62-64 this winter and am comfy with it. I just remember to dress a little more snugly, warmer socks, sweater on, etc.
I have a new (to me) apartment that has electric heaters in the walls (space heaters) and am going conservative because I don't have a good handle on how expensive it could get.

I know how awful it is. Our gas bill jumped sky high this month $151.71. It normally is about $90 each month, but we've had a long cold spell.

Yikes...I fell over when I got ours....$180...I have our heat set at 67 and it's programmed to go down to 64 during the day when no one is home.
I showed this to DH and was saying "I just don't get it..blah, blah" He finally admitted that "Well I have been running the fire place (gas) for a few hours a night when I get home to warm up..." Well how long is a "few" hours.
Come to find out a few hours is more like 4-5 hrs...YIKES....no more! Had a little heart to heart with him....
We'll see how next month goes...so far we've had weather below zero..."We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen; For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

Mine was $187 this month, and we keep the heat at 68 during the day, 55 at night, and 62 when we are gone (though we are home most of the time). I think the water heater is what's killing us. :-/

Mine was $243. My electric was over $100 and I don't even heat or cook or dry clothes with electricity. Energy costs are insane right now and they are only going to get worse. Even being as frugal as we are...I'm thinking everybody is going to have to adjust their budgets to accommodate the rising energy costs.

I think electric is cheaper these days . . .
If you have the option of using electric heaters (even if they are space heaters) they seem to be much cheaper compared to the gas prices these days. My electric bill was 104.75 from Nov. 28-Dec. 28th. We keep the main heat (central) on 65 and use a small space heater in the back of the house. This price includes running alot (and I mean alot) of Christmas lights for about 6 hours a day the entire month, as well as everything else (we only use electric now). I was worried about using the small heater with my 16 month old, but she knows that it's hot and doesn't even bother it.

Ours is on equal pay so it is only $60. Normally we keep the heat on 60 b/c we use the woodstove but it has been so cold here we have been turning it up in the mornings. We have gas heat, water heater, clothes dryer and stove/oven. Even with turning our heat up I am very curious to see what is going to happen because our 18 yr old daughter just moved out. I'm think the gas and electric will both be going down.

If you aren't already, I would like to suggest getting on a budget plan for your utility bills. I love knowing each month how much my utilities will be. Once a year there is a settle-up month but I usually keep an eye on the usage during the year to make sure my budgeted amount is close enough that I wont get hit hard by the settle-up month. Yes, I pay during the summer for an estimated usage, but at least I know what that bill will be. Just a thought!

Ours is $147, but that is down from last year. Our situation is different. We were in the middle of remodeling last year and both electric and gas were higher than normal. Our budget amount for electric is $106 a month. I went off the budget for gas because they wanted us to pay $183 a month. That was up from $117, because of the cold snap we had last February. Our furnace was only hooked up to one vent and it was hard to get it to stop running. I did with some inginuity, but it kicked on constantly. I think because of that little spell of 3 days and the rest of the month our bill should have been for about 400 therms of gas. Let's see, that would have been over 13 therms a day of gas usage. That's a lot, even for us.

I should add that I keep our indoor temp about 67 during the day and 65 at night. We can't seem to go much lower than that because even with several blankets we still get cold.
