    Question My Utilities in January

OK - I LOVE my electric bill - Just $12.02 (Remember I live alone and can turn off everything I want), but my Gas bill was $56.32. This HAS to go down. This coming month I am keeping my water heater on "Vacation". I got a tip from here that someone's Mom does this and just turns the heat up 1/2 hour before taking a shower. This works GREAT! The vacation temp is high enough to kill any "critters" that may be there, then it only takes my heater about 15 minutes to get up nice and hot. But, I don't have a washer/dryer and only use my dishwasher once a week. The only other thing that is gas is my furnace, which I use MAYBE 6 or 7 hours/week on any temp higher than 50 degrees (50 is the lowest I can set it without unplugging it). And, when I do turn it on it's at 65 degrees MAX. I have a small electric heater for my bedroom to use at night (and in the bathroom in the morning). What else can I do? I'm afraid to unplug the furnace because I don't want the pipes to freeze.

I'm jealous of your utility bills! If I just didn't have all these darn kids . . .
