Space Heaters....are they worth it?
Does anybody know if it will be worth my while to use a space heater? We have a 2 story house, the upstairs stays toasty warm, even with our heat (electric heat) set at 62. The downstairs stays cold though....we found a buy-one-get-one free on space heaters at Target a couple days ago. Supposedly (fingers crossed here) they can save a lot of money on the electric bill....any truth to this??
They are 1500 watts, we're only using one for downstairs.
Thanks for any light you can shed...boy I'd love to save a couple bucks on our elec. bill.

We use one in our Florida room (like a sunroom) at night when it is cold out. I haven't noticed the bill going up.

We have 3 oil heaters and use them all the time. I did notice my electric stayed consistant with the summer months of running the a/c but for the price of propane its worth it. We just had propane delivered the other day and they gentleman said boy you guys don't go thru near what the last ppl that owned this house did. He said they dropped 500.00 a month trying to keep this huge old house warm. So I figured we put 1200.00 in propane and it will last us until summer gets here and electric runs us 250.00 monthly we still come out ahead. Side note this house is huge and from the 30's the last owners didn't take good care of it they were elderly so many of the windows leak badly we will be sealing them come summer and insulating, so we should see a significant difference next winter.

Thanks for the input! I alternate between being excited for the next bill (to see if it has gone down due to the space heaters) and being nervous wondering if the bill will be sky high due to the wattage of the space heaters.
Thanks again!

We have been using 2 oil filled space heaters and have noticed a difference in our oil consupmtion. MY electric bill is more but I would rather pay that then 3.00 a gallon for oil.

We use a space heater in our family room because it gets chilly in there(big room, high ceilings) and the propane wall unit heater in the room cant keep up without us spending huge amounts of money on propane deliveries. So even though our electric bill is higher(not by much) its still way cheaper than propane.
