What items in the home would use the most electricity?
Anyone have a list or know a web page that discusses this?
I know central heat and air and electric heat..but what others? Thanks.

We found that our freezer was using a lot more than we thought. If it isn't full, we unplug it.

My dryer does run it up and the bills are smaller when I hang things out on the clothesline in summer. I need to start hanging them up in the basement again. I just got out of the habit when I got my new dryer.
All my appliances are all newer except for my big deep freezer which I believe is one of the culprits of running the bill up. Its not full but usually half full. Thing is I use it so much though so it will have to stay plugged in. Its still in very good shape so I hate to replace it.

A tip for those with half-empty freezers, a full freezer is more energy efficient to run. So fill up your freezer, maybe a bunch of gallon milk jugs of water.

I would think that televisions would use a lot of juice, especially those with cable boxes, vcrs/dvd players hooked up where they are technically always on.

Other than heat and air conditioning, my old fax, scanner, copier, printer machine. At that time I wasn't turning things off at night. Anyway once I got rid of the behemoth I noticed a $20 drop in my electric.

Thanks for all the tips and the great site. I'm studying up so I know what I can do to help. I'd say a lot of our consumption would be tvs, video games and computers. after reading up. We have 5 tvs and 3 are running constantly. 2 of which usually have game systems running. Also 3 computers. I have 2 adult children in college but living at home. They both have several game systems, large tvs and laptop computers in their rooms. When they are here those things are going constantly. I'm really going to have to work on things to get these bills down.
