My daughter has propane and the amount of money her & her hubby have to pay for heating fuel just makes my stomach turn. How in the he!! can they expect people to be able to afford to heat their homes? I just don't understand any of it...somebody is getting rich and it sure isn't us.

That scares me. I have natural heat now.
I'm seriously considering buying a kerosene heater next year so the heat will be prepaid that way.

My mom uses propane for cooking, she was telling me hers has gone up too.
I always have to laugh when I see the commercials for propane, "the afforadable heating solution"

Our propane is ridiculous and killing us. We are thinking about a new heating option next winter, like an add on wood stove. We have all of the free wood on our property but my Dh has had back problems and and back surgery so we (I) was worried about the labor of cutting and splitting the wood. Not sure what we are going to do yet.

Ok for those of you that don't use propane, what else do you use so maybe we can look at other heating systems to help bring down the costs?

I feel for you. We too heat with propane. Maybe it is time to shop around for a new propane company? We're doing that for car/house insurance right now.
My husband seriously looked into a corn burner insert for our fireplace. Our prblem is we need to get rid our debt before I can pay cash for an upgrade like this.Jill

We have a portable kerosene heater that we use alot in the winter time. Normally we use it downstairs in the family room, but for the last week I have had a chill that I just cant get rid of so DH brought up the heater for me. I'm telling you, there is nothing nicer than the warmth that that heater gives out. It go so warm in here that my chill finally went away and I had to open the door! lol

We use propane too for heating, hot water and cooking. It's the only option in our California Sierra foothills community. (There are no natural gas lines.) We have a gas burning fireplace (propane), and the one thing I wish I knew before we bought our home is how chilly the winters are here! Our gas fireplace cannot be converted to woodburning because the chimney cannot take the heat. If we had a woodburning fireplace, we could purchase an insert or woodstove to heat our home, and that would help us with heating costs tremendously. We are very frugal with our heat and used it for only a few hours each day, but we had many days this winter when our house was 49-55 degrees. Our propane costs have jumped too!

I use a small kerosene heater all the time it has vents on top so I sit it under ceiling fan.I can even cook soup, chilli and other things on top of it.I've made Irish soda bread on it in a pan with a lid.On the coldest nights it keeps the pipes from freezing might get down to 50 but I have a big house with 3 bedroms upstairs and a bathroom.I only open stairdoor if going get to 0 there is insulation between ceiling and floor so not much heat goes up there. On sunny days it gets to 70 in my livingroom where I have the heater. Also for the one said you can't use fireplace cause of chimney there are chimney liners you can put in for wood burning.Corn stoves not very cheap now since the price of corn has went up alot my sister has one but her FIL gives them the corn since he's a farmer and her H helps him plant and harvest the crops.

OMG that sure is alot, If prices keep rising, we will just be using our econo heaters to heat a few rooms in the house and we have tons of blankets and we can all huddle together, lol. Seriously though prices of everything have rising and are killing everyone's budget and that Stilulus check just wont cut it.
Gosh I cant wait for it to get warmer out, I can stand the heat and no turn on the air conditioner but the heating (with oil) is killing us this year.
