pre paid cell phone
im tired of paying $80 for a cell phone and was wondering about the pre paid cell phones.that you have to by more minutes when you run out.i dont talk on the phone much probably less than 100 min a month.does any one have any experiance with this type of phone.pros/cons if it would be cost effective or not and do the minutes expire?

We use tracfone and have been very happy. I add minutes on the internet. The minutes carry over. We all have the really cheap $15 phones so if we break it or a kid destroys theirs (they have them for sports, meetings, etc.) I won't be upset. No way would I carry a $100 or more phone.

I have pre-paid through Net 10 and I love it. I was never using all my minutes and Verizon didn't have a plan lower than $40/month at the time, so I got this one. I refill every 2 months with $30 (300 minutes) and have never run out.

I have the older trac phone. I buy $20.00
worth of minutes (60) every 3 months.
I will be getting a regular one through Fiance as he doesn't use all of his minutes
and is losing money. He has to have this plan through work. This way we will use them all each month.
I love the trac phones though. To be One With The Universe In Spirit, Mind and Body

Have the tracfone. I rarely use mine. It really is for emergencies or if I need to make a long distance call. For me it is cheap, reliable, and has good cross country coverage. Hope you find a good plan to fit your budget and needs.

I have a Tracfone. I bought it years ago for about 50$. I think now they're about 20. We get Tracfone deals on the computer..100.00 for a year about 400 minutes. We only use it for emergency or when on a trip. We have never had trouble with it. I have used that phone in the Badlands, VA, Niagara Falls and inside my gr'son's grade school gym, without problem. I would recommend it to anyone.

BOOST MOBIL
Got the phone years ago so that hubby and I could talk walkie talkie style......
Pros:
*No surprise bills
*pay as you go
*$20.00 last me at least 3 months
*can walkie talkie from where I live to as far away as Anchorage, Alaska.
*the new version of the phones are as low as $25.00.
Cons:
*this plan is not good if you talk alot...it is .15 to .25 cents per minute in/out depending on the time of time.

I have AT&T and only have to put minutes on it every 90 days. The minutes roll over. I don't talk on it much. I have it mainly for emergencies.

I have a very cute little flip phone from tracfone,I paid 20 dollars for it, only because my old one was so heavy and my kids made fun of it. LOL! I pay about 100 a year, thats a year's service and 400 minutes, mine is for quick calls to say I'll be late or if I break down, I've had a tracfone for many years and have been very happy with it.

I'm in Canada and am with Solo Mobile. I have been happy with it. I put on $20 every couple of months and that is sufficient for my needs. I use it for emergencies when traveling, so the kids can always reach me, and if my oldest is out in the evening, she takes it so I know where she is or she can call if she has a problem.
You are much more cognizant of how much you talk when you pay in advance for it.

We had a prepaid cell phone at one time and it worked well for us until they changed the plan. If you opt for this type of phone make sure you find out how long the minutes stay on your phone if you don't use them. Some allow you to roll them over and some don't. I think it would be cheaper than $80 a month though...
