Gas Company is going to kill me...

I am at a loss for words...well kind of! The gas bill that was due this month which I wrote about in a previous thread was $319.62

and I was really PO'd. The new gas bill just came out and it is $69.93

and showed a usage of 51ccf, compared to 337ccf for last month???? We have not done anything different and yes the new bill is an actual reading...and the last bill was also an actual reading or so they say. I don't think I believe them any more...

I don't really think the meter reader read my meter for the last billing period...I think he just looked at the size of my house and took a shot in the dark. Mainly because there is no way our usage could drop by 286ccf in one month especially during cold weather...and this months bill is for more days!!!

I'm just going to start watching and whenever my bill is estimated I am going to go out and read my meter and watch for errors.

I've often wondered if there are times the meter reader really doesn't read the meter and just estimates. That's a BIG discrepancy in bills. I'd be keeping a much closer eye on my meter, too.

Sometimes if the meter has been read wrong in the previous month, the following month when it is read correctly, the error is corrected. Could be what happened.

I read my own meter every month just to see if what the bill says reflects what I have. You can do this yourself and keep an eye on your usage better that way. Then, if you see a huge disrepency you can call the gas company and report it.
