Default Geez Oil Fill-up for House $3.61 a gallon!!!!

    Geez,

I prepaid only 350 gallons of heating oil this season since I lost money last year on the prepay. Well now $2.38 a gallon seems cheap, lol

Anyways I needed a fillup even though the season is almost over because we heat our water with oil and I was down to 1/4 a tank. I nearly fainted when I was told the current price was $3.61 a gallon. I told them to only deliver the min which is 150 gallons. That brought my tank up to 3/4 full.

So for the season we used 434 gallons. This is our lowest consumption since we bought this house almost 6 years ago. I remember when we first moved in the first year we used almost 900 gallons of oil.

Luckily the 150 gallons should last me till the fall. I cringe at the thought of what the prices might be at that time.

Fuel oil is really expensive! Have you considered getting an electric hot water heater? I would think an electric one would be cheaper than heating water with fuel oil.

You do conserve very well!!! I don't know anybody who uses such a minimal amount of fuel oil. My gf & her hubby used over 1000 gallons this season!

Will your oil company sign you up on a contract? Ours does and we have a lock in rate of $3.05 this year. We pay a flat mothly rate based on last years consumption. If we go over, our last payment is higher, if we use less, we get a credit. Something to check into for next winter.

I got 150 gallons for 3.49/gallon. I had just recieved a rebate check from our dentist for 535.00 and had it for all of 10 minutes when I called for oil. They quoted me a price of 525.00 for 150 gallons. Oh well, easy come easy go! I ended up with less than 10.00 from my rebate check but then again, it came just in the nick of time!

The oil company that I use ususally comes out with the prepay price sometime in May. I will be on the lookout for it.

2 oil companies not too far from me went out of business this season. Those that had prepaid their oil lost their money. I really got to think hard about prepaying again.

I forgot to add that we did think about converting to an electric water heater but our electric rates are due to increase 30% in 2010 so I'm not sure if that would pay off or not.

Our house in Michigan was going to be used only in the warmer season so we have an all electric house. Things have changed and we are here a good part of the winter so we put in a pellet stove. The stove heats the whole house 1800sf and the cost is about $45-$55 per month for the pellets. We have a thermostat so can set the temperature sure different then the old wood burning stoves. Our friends that use propane or oil are getting killed with the prices. The electric bill is around $130 and we are on a well so that is included in the electric bill.

Wow that is expensive. We don't have oil, but propane. We are down to 25% and are hoping to make it through the end of the contract year in May without having to refill. The minimum if we have to refill is 200 gallons so it would cost at least $450. I'm keeping the heat way down during the day and even lower at night. We only used 5% the past month so we should be able to make it.

I just spoke to my sis who heats with propane and she said the price is up to $4.50 a gallon. That is crazy!

Yep...we had to order oil today...no way around it...$3.79 a gallon. I'm still recovering from the head wound I suffered from after falling onto the slate floor in utter disbelief!! (jk)
My dh did convince the oil company to "only" give us 100 gallons (minimum is 200) as we may be lifting our house this summer and we don't want to add any extra weight to the load!! lol
(We really are trying to get a grant to lift the house but obviously an extra 100 gallons of oil isn't really going to make a difference in the grand scheme of things!)

OMG!!! Ok I don't feel bad about our price on LP then ... we were on empty and my furnance quit working thought it was because it was almost empty.. umm no water killed it ..b ut I called the LP guy and got half a tank... 400 gallon.. yikes! But it was 1.99 so I spent 800 dollars ... well we haven't had to use any of it cause the furnance is broken.. waiting on the plumbers to come fix it so my 800 dollars are safe in the tank!
