    Default Regarding Directv

A word of caution. We had directv for 8 years when I turned it off 9 days ago. First, I had to speak with a hard sell type individual who's job it was to try to keep me before I could have my service turned off. I was informed that I would recieve a final bill and that was it.

Well, this weekend they debited our final bill from our checking account without any prior notice or us ever recieving a final bill. We were never enrolled in an auto payment with them, but had used our account to pay bills in the past. I called them this morning, and was told that it was part of my agreement with them but I could dispute the charge if I wanted to. I explained to them that I didn't want to dispute the charge if in fact that was our final bill, but I wanted to let them know what a horrible taste they have left in my mouth by not even giving us a chance to pay them first.

So, since we cancelled our cell phone as well at the same time, I'm watching for another underhanded debit from our account. I had no idea that they could legally do this. It just feels so wrong to me. It makes me think twice about scheduling my bills online through anyone but my bank.

I think I read some very tiny words on one of my bills that said in effect that by sending them a CHECK from my bank they considered it an electronic transfer and felt they had to right to transfer money from my account in that way should I not pay my bill.

I don't think it's ok for them to be able to do that without permission. I've always worried that Paypal might try and pull something like that with my bank account. I've heard it happened to others.

We had DirectTv several years ago and always had trouble out of them. We switched to Dish Network. Now for some reason, we are getting 3 to 5 offers a week in the mail from DirestTv. I do not even open them any more.

I've never had any trouble from DTV even when we moved and didn't have it for a few months. That really stinks to have them do that!

We used Direct TV a few years ago because it was our only option. I will NEVER use them again. The bill went up a little every month, I am not joking, and their customer service is horribel.

Default Debit card vs. Credit card

I pay our bills on line but ONLY use my credit card rather than the debit card. Our bank will not use "disputes" while my credit will. All I have to do is call card company and tell them I dispute this card charge and they credit it back. It is up to the other company to prove the charge is correct.

I then pay by debit card my month bill so I incur no interest.

We have direct TV too. They messed up our bill for the first 6 months we lived here. You're right, their customer service stinks. I have noticed it going up every couple of months. When we moved in it was 112/mo. Now 8 months later, its 148/mo. We got a notice its going up again. If it was up to me, I'd cancel, but dh loves having all the channels. hmmm. maybe I should call and threaten to drop service, maybe they would lower it.
