How much did your family spend of heat this year?
We just got our final tally on the heating for this year and we spent $695.00 the heat was turned on in mid Oct. and only runs in the morning and a couple of times to take the chill of at night. We have a programmable thermostate and I swear by them. At 10:00 we have the furnace set at 56 but we all have electric blankets to keep us warm. Right now running them is cheaper then fuel. Our light bill is anywheres 80.00-100.00 a month. our house is 28x58 so we don't have a large house either which that helps also. I also give praise to this site because everyone keeps me on track. Thank you.

Well, unfortunately I have oil.
My budget was $174/mo for 9 months = $1,566.00. At least it was down from last year ($231 for 9 mos = 2079).
We have new windows, keep our heat at 60 during the day and 63 otherwise. I am going to look into getting a woodstove insert this year.Wife to DH

We are all electric, so I don't know what part is just from the furnace. But our electric bills ran about $120 a month.

This is one area that we are very fortunate in. We have an outdoor woodstove and we heat with free wood. The power company cut down trees in people's yards year before last and since alot of it was pine, people gave it to us.
We have friends who purchased a new home in the woods and they cut alot of trees out of their yard and gave us all the wood. We got probably 20 loads from them that is stacked in our backyard for next year.
Our electric bill goes up about 15.00 a month in winter. I'm sure some of that is from the stove running, but some is from having lights on more hours a day and using the dryer some. I also bake and cook more in winter.S

$2500 this winter just to heat our house.
We use oil for half the house and propane for the other half. We keep the heat at 65 during the day and 60 at night. Our house would be freezing to go any lower as it's old and some rooms are drafty.

Unfortunately we have oil and spent $1700 this winter-our hot water is also on oil. I have put a timer in the second bathroom to try and limit our showers to 5 minutes or less. Hopefully we will be putting a wood stove in this summer, and will get our wood from our trees out back.

~$364 for the six cool/cold months. We had a mild winter here. I also have a gas water heater and stove and my summer bill is $35 a month so I subtracted that from my winter bills to show how much went to heating our home. We have less than 800 sq. feet and added insulation last year so our bill dropped $13 a month even with price increases. I expect to spend about $800 this year total on natural gas.~

I have radiators and averaged $36.24 a month total for electricity. I'm currently living on the second floor of a 3 story apartment complex. Sandwiched in like that seems to be pretty efficient.

Wow there is such a difference in the prices that we all paid. I'm not sure of the exact amount. but we have oil and we got @ 325 gallons delivered this winter. At $3.09 a gal that's too much for me

BUT we did way better than last year. Our house is 108 yrs old and comes with the hardwoods and drafts normally associated with that. DH did a wonderful job insulating right before winter, so it probably would've cost at least $150 more!

Spent about $1,000, but it ususally runs us about $1,200 every heatig season. So, we did better this year. We have natural gas too.

I am sure of the exact total for the winter, but our budget plan stayed the same for the next 6 months. I was suprised, since I thought we had used more heat this winter.
