    Default article on electricity guzzlers

    http://finance.yahoo.com/real-estate...an-Energy-Diet

Okay, here is an article on electricity guzzlers. Surprise news to me- your ancient tv circa 1992, consumes 3 times less energy than a new plasma tv. Also, can you generally unplug a cable box when you are not using it during the day time? Because it consumes the same amount whether on or off.

Wow!!! Who would have ever thought that an old TV could beat out a modern TV when it came to electricity consumption? You can unplug your cable box, but it will take a few moments for the time, etc to reset once it is plugged back in...

My goodness. It adds up doesn't it.
We'll have to start walking around the house and unplugging all the unnecessary electric burners.

It suprises me that electronics that are turned off use the same amount of electricity as those items that are on. I'll have to start unplugging the items that are not used all that often.

Wow! I have 2 small LCD tv's, but I unplug EVERYTHING. Including my laptop & internet box, microwave, etc. The only thing using electricity in my house right now is my small bar size fridge. My electric bill is generally under $15/mo.

This was an excellent article! Thanks for posting it. Our home is all electric, but luckily, very efficient construction. This will be a great help in trimming what we can. (And someday, maybe we can afford a solar system for most of our needs.) I knew that any electronics plugged into the wall still draw power, but I had no idea just how much. I also didn't know about the ductwork energy loss in heating and cooling, although it makes sense. Very interesting.

We're mad turner-offers around here. We're also unpluggers, but probably not as vigilant as we could be.

    Thanks!

Thanx for the link. I knew you could save money on your bill by unplugging things that are not being used but I never knew HOW MUCH they could still use even when off. I'm making my family unplug anything not being used. It'll be neat to see how much money we can save by doing this.
