    Default Is Galveston Island not a good plan ... now that Ike's been through?

    We were thinking of Galveston Island over Christmas break.

    Would you do it?

    galveston island is devastated, gone. it wll be a year or more before tourism is back to normal.

    they aren't saying anything, but one reason they will not let people back is that they are searching for dead bodies. it's like the 1900 hurricane all over again.
    11% gross to retirement
    10% takehome to tithe and offerings
    emergency fund maintained at 3000(works for me)
    credit card debt 7500
    mortgage free
    freedom accounts/sinking funds that ebb and flow
    then live on the rest!

    i am trying something new. LDS church advises savings or debt repayment should be the same as the tithe. 10% each.

    we heard it could be as long as two months before they even allow the citizens to go back permanently . I highly doubt it will be any where close to being ready for vacationers and tourists.

    As the others have said sadly there's nothing there anymore. It'll be several years before they will be back to having visitors.
