Default I get to plan a trip!!

Dh called today, he said to speak to his parents about taking the kids for a long weekend. We've never had a weekend away, ever. There's always been kids. Now we are in the position to save for a small trip. I'm very excited.

I wanted to stay within Canada, but (and this is stupid) it's WAY cheaper to leave the country!

I want to see what our options are, and figure out how much it would take. Dh wants to save for a family trip to Mexico in a couple years, and I told him, that WE should get to go on a trip before the kids go, as we've never traveled, never had a honeymoon(his work wouldn't give him time off).

It's his 40th b'day this fall, so it's kinda about that, my b'day is just a few days before his, but I"m not THAT old..lol. And our Anniversary is in October.

He mentioned Las Vegas, but I really know nothing about it. We have never been in a Casino and have no interest in that. I'd think a cruise would be nice, but dh isn't into boats..lol.

What is out there? We're thinking Sept/Oct time. And of course, something that won't break the bank horribly.

It may not happen, it's just in the possibility stage. We need to be able to pay cash for it, or we won't go.

    Fire away options!

How exciting for you!! I love planning trips!!

You could go to the Grand Canyon, drive west to Montreal, go down to wine country in California. Can't wait to hear what you decide!!

Drive to Montreal? I'd love to, but that's like a 5 day drive from here. Flights there are insanely pricey Who knows though, maybe the swine flu will lower the prices.

Thanks for the ideas! I'd love to see the Grand Canyon!!

I'll look up wine country... not sure what you mean.

How about Victoria? You are close enought to drive so it won't take long. Or the badlands in the States? I love trips and have been itching to go somewhere but right now the finances won't allow it. Anyway, you will have a blast planning it!

There's a lot to do and see in Vegas besides gambling. I spent a week there and only gambled about 20$ total. There are shows and museums and (at the time) art exhibits galore. The shows alone are pretty impressive.

If you want to see the Grand Canyon, it's only about a day's drive from Vegas. The canyon is worth the trip.

Enjoy. Let us know what you decide to do.

While your in Vegas go see the Hoover Dam its awesome. If you go to the Canyon pay the extra money and walk out on the glass floor another to die for moment. How about an afternoon of white water rafting! That oughta get DH blood pumping! Not coming all the way down stop at Yellowstone, spluge on a dinner in one of the lodges. Walk throught them.
See Mt. Rushmore and the Corn Palace. So many things so little time.

How about flying into San Francisco then renting a car and driving down highway 1 to Santa Barbara or LA or even San Diego depending on how far you want to go? Theres a lot of beautiful coastal scenery (think Big Sur), wineries, museums, etcetera. Sept/Oct is probably the best time of year (off season for tourists and best weather)
