    Default San Francisco & Sacramento!

Well, my mom has decided that it's time for a mother-daughter trip! Um...okay! She's paying for the airline tickets and hotels... I have to cover my food, tours, and souvenirs (not planning to get any souvenirs...aside from a couple fridge magnets...my version of "souvenirs" -- hey, they're useful! ).

Will be the second half of this month...heading back on July 1st.

Planning for 4 or 5 days in San Francisco...but can be a couple longer depending on what we plan to do.

Then 2-3 days in Sacramento (have family in Roseville that will show us around and we'll stay with them).

SOOOOOO...any input for either of those places?

We're looking at Fisherman's Wharf, Peir 39, trolley rides, the Golden Gate bridge, riding the BART subway (hey, I've never ridden a subway)...

Not sure about stuff to do in Sacramento...saw that there's a really old train there...like late 1800's...that looked neat. Other ideas?

    Thanks! =)

In San Francisco take a walk through Chinatown, and if you have a car or can spring for a taxi go down Lombard Street- the crookedest street in the world.

In Sacramento, walking around Old Town is fun - just did that a couple weeks ago. The train museum is there too - that must be where that old train is that you talked about.

I live 2 hours from SF and 3 hours from Sac.

I hope you have alot of fun!

Oh!! - if you can swing it and have a rental car, go to Muir Woods in Marin County just across the GG bridge. Its a beautiful redwood forest. Worth the trip!

What about Alcatraz? You can book that online. I think it's called the blue and yellow ferry. What about the Japanese Tea Gardens? You can get some beautiful pictures.

    Have fun.

I live 30 minutes from SAC and about 2 hours from SF (*sigh*). My SF suggestion that hasn't been mentioned is to make sure you take a drive down Lombard Street (most crooked street in the world) - it's a simple thing to do.... but easily worth doing, just to say "I've done it". You did say you were going to ride a cable car, right? If not, make sure you do!

SAC? I suppose the train museum is worth a visit - and if you are looking for something to do, Old Town is worth a stroll....

Edited: Ok, I see Lombard street was already mentioned.... see, you really need to do that!

(ps - how funny, I am on my way to Roseville in an hour today for errands and shopping)

Well, we decided to skip Sacramento and have our family from that area come to San Fran to visit us! hehehehe

We're leaving Sunday night and will be gone for 8 whole days of fun!

We already booked a popular 5 hour tour that incorporates a ferry ride, Lombard street, a walk through China Town, and a host of other things!!

Also, we got the 2 day "Wharf Pass" that will let us into the wax museum, cable car ride, etc.

We'll spend a day leisurly shopping in Union Square...and eating! And a tour of the financial district, too...

And, goofy as I am, I want to go to Dollar Tree. hehehe

We're planning to get the 7-day bus pass for ease getting around the area. Neither of us are used to taking a bus at ALL...so that will be an experience in and of itself! hahahaha

Okay...back to packing!! Thanks for all the input!! I can't wait!!

Take a ferry ride to Sausalito (spelling?), there is an hamburger place, short walk from the ferry, worth a try. A few interesting stores to browse. The ferry building on SF side is a year-long farmer's market, but more stores on the sidewalk on Saturday.

Coit Tower, view of GG & Bay Bridges.

Golden Gate Park (man made park) -DeYoung Museum

Exploratium, Palace of Fine Arts (where the world expo was many years ago), somewhere around end of Lombard St/Marina District.

Japan Town in Richmond District, on Geary St. There is a small resturant that serves all different kinds of crepes, very good.

A modern architecture style of St Mary's Church on Gough/Geary. Old St Mary's Church close to Chinatown. Quite a bit of contrast if you visit both of them.

If you have time, you can go all the way to the other side of SF, the Pacific Ocean side, Great Highway, there is a restuarant, Cliffhouse (a public swimming/bath place in the 20's). Close by there, 40th Avenue(I think) is another museum, Legion of Honor, has one of the oldest/original organ.

That's all I can think of now.
