    Default Seattle and area?

DH is being sent to Redmond for a week of training and airfare is cheap enough that I am going too. He gets out of class at 3pm, so we will have evenings together and one Saturday all day.

What's to do in the area? I visited Seattle for business 10 years ago but really did not get to see anything because I was busy until 5pm. I thought the surrounding area was beautiful and I would love to see more of it, especially the coastline.

We will be there mid September. Is it cold yet, or just wet?

It will be both cold and wet. My son lived there for the past 2 1/2 years. Pikes Market is a definite. You might also consider going into the different neighborhoods. You need to go to Fremont and see the troll under the bridge. You might even consider taking the ferry across and drive to Port Angeles. It will take you through the forest. It is absolutely breathtaking. You can also go to Forks and La Push if you are a Twilight fan. Everything that you see on the movies are filmed there.

Pike Street Market for sure... a ferry ride is also great...but a jaunt up to Mt. Rainier National Park is well worth it also. The beach is about 2 hours from Seattle, but realize the beaches in Washington have grey sand, not white, so you might be disappointed. So many things to do, and yes you may see some rain, but quite frankly September is one of our best months. Enjoy your time here! The PNW is absolutely gorgeous!

There is a gold rush museum that is free (well, our taxes pay for it).

Klondike Gold Rush - Seattle Unit National Historical Park (U.S. National Park Service)

    It is pretty cool.

This might be repeating, sorry if it is.

Mt Rainer national park is really cool. Mt St Helens is even cooler. We did both with in a day, no overnighting.

You HAVE TO ride the ferry across the puget sound. It's fun, and pretty. IT was totally new for me, being from the midwest. Our only ferry back home was just a big flat boat that carried about 9 cars across a creek. I'd take the Bainbridge Island/Seattle ferry. It's only about 35 minutes and you can walk right off of the ferry in Bainbridge island into the main drag of BI where there's a bunch of shopping. There's a bakery there that sells the best gluten free poppy seed muffins.

If you walk onto the ferry, you only pay on the Seattle side. Bainbridge Island to Seattle is free.

There's a submarine museum at Keyport, right outside of sub base bangor. I think it's about 30 minutes from the Bainbridge Island ferry terminal.

    Naval Undersea Museum

If you happen to be Norwegian, you might like Poulsbo, WA on the kitsap peninsula. They have lots of Norwegian stuff, and the bakeries are especially nice.

I'm more familiar with the other side of hte sound, obviously. I didn't go into Seattle a lot.
