I need advice from my canadian friends
Many of you know that my DS Kerry is about to go live in Canada for a year. He leaves here on June 24 - flying Brisbane - Sydney - San Franciso - Vancouver - Calgary - Edmonton. Apparently there is something on in Calgary, I suppose it's the Calgary Stampede, and we had problems getting the flight. Anyhow, the Lodge is sending a bus in to the airport to pick up a few new people and he has to be there at 4pm on Saturday 25 June. He'll arrive in Edmonton at 10am. My question is this: he needs to get a few warm clothes. He has a light surfer's jacket and a pair of jeans and they are the only warm clothes he has. His entire wardrobe consists of shorts and t shirts! lol I've heard there is a big shopping mall in Edmonton and I'm hoping he can lock his bag up in a locker at the airport and go to the mall to get some warm clothing. Does anyone know how far that trip would be? Is there a bus or train that goes to the mall?
And finally, what kind of clothes would kids in their mid-20s be wearing at this time of year? Do they layer - like starting off with jeans and adding sweaters and coats as needed? What sort of shoes, he's got a couple of pairs of nike and converse trainers, nothing else.
Any advice will be gratefully received.

Rhonda, he'll probably be fine with another pair of jeans and maybe a sweater (jumper) along with his T-shirts and shorts until he gets settled into the lodge. Temperatures here in Canada are variable and even in the mountains it gets quite warm. Once he's in Jasper there are buses going from the lodge into various towns where no doubt he can add to his wardrobe. Then he won't have to drag as much luggage.
I checked the weather data for July and August from last year for Jasper Alberta and the average daily temperatures were 24 C to 33 C.
He might want to have a pair of sandals, swim trunks, sun screen and mosquito repellent. There are some great beaches around Jasper (mountain lakes have great beaches and very cold water) and employees get to use the resort facilities (pool, gym) during non-peak periods.
Hope that helps!

He also probably doesn't want to do any shopping at West Edmonton mall. It is very expensive there although its a very neat mall. Its huge and a place to have lots of fun. Just not fun shopping.
I think he would have to take a taxi to the mall if he went from the airport although I'm not sure about that.
Also if he wants to do any hiking on his days off, he will need a good pair of hiking boots. I would also suggest a good hat such as a "Tilly" hat.
I think his best bet is to wait until he gets here before he purchases a lot of clothing. He might find it cool and yet he might find it extremely warm. He might also want to see what others his age is wearing.
He does need to have:
sunscreen
mosquito repellant
sunglasses
