    Default This Years Vacation

Time was short... money was even shorter, but we managed to have a great vacation this year. We had a 3 day, 2 night mini-vacation this year (saving because we are going to Memphis to see DF's family next year)

We are from Massachusetts and we went to Sturbridge Village, an 1800's colonial village where the people dress and talk in the period as well as do the actual day to day chores of the time.

The tickets were good for 2 days - 20 each for adults and I was able to get a free pass from the library for me DD, otherwise 6

I managed to get a business suite in the hotel, queen bed, microwave, sink, fridge and a pull out sofa for 2 nights. The pool was outside but it was great because it was HOT out!! Breakfast and coffee was included as well.

I packed a cooler with food for dinners (all prepared at home and in microwavable containers) a few little snacks and drinks (to avoid the vending machine). For lunch, I had a disposable grill and we made burgers in the picnic area of the village.

The "extra things" we spent money on... we all made clay cups with the pottery man ($5 each) and DF made an iron hook at the blacksmith. The only big purchase was the cookbook... I figured if anyone knew how to cook frugally, it was the people who had to cook over a fire, lol.

    Total for the vacation-
    Hotel - 140
    Attraction - 40
Extras - 35 (cups, hook and cookbook)
    Gas - 30
Food - 10 (for snacks and grills... the other food would have been eatten at home anyways)

Being able to stay close to home and avoiding having to take a plane and rent a car really helped out. We were able to do something fun and educational with our DD for the same price as taking her to the amusement park for a day!
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

Very smart indeed. I can see how that was a lot of fun and kids should really love it. Good for you all!

That's awesome. Sounds like a great trip all around. I haven't been to SV in about 20 yrs, but I can't wait to take my kids there.

    Where did you stay?

If you're looking for a day trip, Plymouth Plantation is going to have a free day soon...I think sometime in September. My 9 yr old dd went there for a school field trip, but she didn't get to see much because of the chaperone she had. I think we'll be going to that free day
