100 Mile Garage Sale -- MN/WI border - Anyone ever been there??

If you like garage sales, maybe you'll see me here. I went last year and only hit 5 of the 14 participating towns. To find out details, do a search for "100 mile garage sale" - I couldn't post the link because I'm a newbie. But it's a fun one! I am going this year too. It will be great!

I have not done the one you mentioned, but I have been to this one http://www.127sale.com/ . The starting point for it is about two hours from my here. It was so much fun, driving up hwy 127 all day - stopping at all of the sales. You cannot do this one in one day, it is a several day event. So if you want to do even half of it you just stay at a hotel and pick up the next day where you stopped the previous day. We do it as a family, DH and the kids have more fun than I do.

I love flea markets, yard sales, neighborhood sales, etc. Never done the Wi/Mn one but have hit dozens of markets in both states. I love it when someone looks at a decoration in the house or yard and asks where it came from and I can tell about somewhere we've been. Its part of the "Traveling with Nerds" thing in our house as their are 3 flea market books and a mapbook all marked up in the truck. Hit a flea market in Lakeland today.

I'm about 5 hours away..........but am going! Last year I was about 15 hours away, and went. I just moved back to MN this past May after living in western SD for last 17 years. It's great to be back! And the winter wasn't as bad as they used to be!!!!

Hi all,

I was just googling "100 mile garage sale mn" and so far this site is the only one I've found with actual human opinions and comments.

I'm considering attending this event and have a question. I hope some of you whom have been there can help me out.

I'll be biking through. In the 3 days of the garage sale, I'll probably hit only about 50 miles of the event. So I'm wondering, which 50 miles should I aim for? I understand this event is on both sides of the river. Which side has the most sales-per-mile? Which side is the road more bike-friendly? Which direction should I travel? (perhaps traffic patterns affect this?)

Thank you in advance for any light you may shed.

Just found this site/thread in a google search, thought I would answer.
I would say the MN side, from Winona to Wabasha there is a 4 lane hiway, lots of bikers on it in the summer time, north of Wabasha it's 2 lane, there's more (and slightly larger) towns on the MN side also, I don't have to drive at all to get there, I will be having a garage sale that day(s).

so maybe the MN side might be a biased opinion.
