    Default North Carolina attraction???

My dh & I want to go to North Carolina in May... We would like to stay on the coast & camp close to the beach... Any ideals on what we could do? It will only be dh & I.

Well it depends on what part of the coast you want to be at - there is 500 miles of coast line. You could choose to stay on the outer banks or inland and drive to the banks.

You may have to search for some campgrounds, and I would have reservations in place. A lot of campgrounds have closed in the last ten years - sold out so that expensive condos can be built. The way the coast is going really sucks. I was born and raised there - can you tell I am bitter.

Anyway if you choose the areas around Nags Head there are: Lighthouses (several that are good for a day-trip) Hatteras and Ocracoke are the closests, Wright Brothers Memorial, Aquarium in Manteo, Lost Colony play in Manteo, Ocracoke Village and Hatteras Village are fun to just walk around, Nature Hikes galore. You could also just hang out at the beach.

Wilmington/Carolina Beach is further south and there you also have an Aquarium, Fort Fisher, USS North Carolina, Historical Wilmington. You are in a bigger town so you could also have shopping opportunities if you want.

Almost all the towns and counties along the coast are so tourist-driven that you can go to their websites and find out all the things to do in the various areas.

    Good luck and have fun!

We love North Carolina. But we stay in the Nantahala area and tube/raft the river. The campground we loved is gone (high dollar development) broke my heart.
We'll be camping in Bryson City this year and tubing the creek over there. If we could afford it, we'd so be living there!
