calculating cost of gas for road trips
Just found this website and thought it was really neat. Sadly it is for the continental US only. You put in your city and where you are going, and the year and make of your car and caculates how much it will cost for gas.

Looks like it's pretty accurate. I was figuring the cost of travelling to Iowa from D.C. It used to cost us $200 round trip, but since gas prices have almost doubled since the last time we made the trip it calculated $399. Which was what I was mentally calculating.

I'm driving up to NJ in June and was trying to figure out how much to budget for gas. Based on this I had WAY overestimated how much I'd need. Great tool, Thanks!

I'll be needing this, thanks. We will be traveling to the Outer Banks in July. May cost us more to get there that it does to stay there if gas prices keep rising.

This would be easier for me if I could type in the cities. We live an hour from Providence and the cities I'd like to calculate aren't even close to what is listed. But I'm bookmarking this because this summer we're going to be moving and I would need to know what we're spending driving through the states.

I also found out recently that mapquest has a subsite where you can find the gas prices at stations by town - and sort them by price. I did this and told my DS where to stop for gas all the way home on his last trip!

Interesting website.
It says the average for New England is $2.85...we are paying $2.95/gallon right now
I can't use it though. It only gives you three locations in NY state...and the furthest one north is Albany
Yes. The entire country only ever drives to/from Albany, Buffalo, or NYC. Hmph.
I agree Teresa, it would be nice if they let you type in a zip code rather than just choose from what they deem are 'important' cities.Last edited by YankeeMom; 04-27-2007 at 09:05 AM.

Great link!
I wonder if this could help get me out of "unnecessary" trips to the in-laws?

I can calculate my mileage and figure out where I might need to get gas, and have been using MapQuest to find out where the gas is cheap along the way - sometimes it has saved me as much as .30 per gallon from where I'd have probably stopped otherwise.

This is a great website. We're heading to the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas this summer and I realized that I underbudgeted by $100 or so.
