Costa Rica in spring?
Any ideas on how to get cheap travel/airfare from the Canadian prairies? We figured it would be $3000cdn. for two for air fare. That seems a bit steep. We have accommodations once we're there. We only want to go for a week. Also, any ideas on affordable things to do? We're staying in San Jose...if this goes ahead. Thanks.

I'm not sure about airfare from Canada - I traveled in Spring 05 from New York. I also didn't travel to San Jose, so this may not be all that useful, but I have a couple of thoughts.
Things were generally inexpensive where I was (Tamarindo/Playa Grande) and the beach/nature is always free. We did lots of walking and exploring, found a good price on surf lessons, and found some bargains for boat guides up the estuary near our lodging.
I *loved* Costa Rica and I am dying to go back.

Thanks. We'll be staying with relatives, so that helps. Not sure I want to do much traveling. We'll only be there a week. Still, would like to see some things. Mostly though, I want to see my great nephew!

Make one expense and do a canopy tour. It is well worth it. Even if you hate hieghts do it. Once you've done the first section the rest are a breeze and the view is a once in a lifetime thing. Check with the CAA they often have deals. When we take an expense trip we can often go there and make payments and becasue they have a better network you can get deals. Try traveling midweek to midweek rather than weekend to weekend. These time are often less.
Go to the libaray now and get a few books on the area you'll find lots of things to do. Backpackers and bike riders type guides.
Ask your relatives what fun and inexpensive. Museums, zoos and gardens.

Costa Rica is a lot of fun, I did it one summer. You're probably already aware, but late spring is actually their rainy season, which might make traveling a little dismal. Still, it doesn't get too bad until June.
