What to wear?

What do I wear going from Texas to maybe 8 degree weather in Midland, Michigan? The top half is pretty easy, thermal underwear, t-shirt, long sleeve thick shirt, coat. Can't find snow gloves, or even hats and scarves here. As for the bottom half, besides the thermal underwear and jeans, what should we wear? We don't have snow pants, and I'd hate to buy them just for a two day excursion. Maybe I should wear lady's tights too. How do we keep dry while playing in the snow? Clueless in Texas.

If the snow is fairly dry, you aren't likely to get that wet - just brush it off before going inside or getting into the car so that it is not still on your clothes to melt. I always wore tights under thermals under jeans or heavy twill pants. Wind pants, if you have them, might be slightly waterproof. I would not invest in snow pants unless they happen to have them at Goodwill or something. And remember, if you are going for fun then you can just go in if anyone starts to get too cold - and you can just change clothes if things get too wet. Try not to get too uptight about it, go with the flow, and have fun!

I had a pair of cottno stretchy legging that I put under my jeans. Really kept me warm but I can't find any of them anywhere.

Might want to add a turtle neck in there I bundle up in a tank T, then T, then turtle neck, then sweatshirt for outside, on the bottom long johns and jeans should do the job, oh and WARM socks and waterproof boots of some kind!
